Solenoids

What are Solenoids?

solenoid is a type of electromagnet formed by a helical coil of wire. When an electric current passes through this coil, it generates a controlled magnetic field. Here are some key points about solenoids:

  • Structure: A solenoid typically consists of a long piece of wire wound into a coil. The length of the coil is substantially greater than its diameter
  • Magnetic Field: The electric current flowing through the coil produces a uniform magnetic field inside the solenoid. This field can be used to create linear motion or to control other magnetic fields
  • Applications: Solenoids are widely used in various devices, including car starters, doorbells, and washing machines. They convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, making them essential in many electromechanical systems

Why Choose E. Preston?

Since our inception in 1980, our business focus has been on providing two things: a reputation for outstanding customer service, and an unbeatable range and stock of electrical and electronic components.

We feel we have achieved that at E Preston, and that probably explains our company growth over the years. We do not want to become complacent though, and we always work hard to exceed customer’s expectations when they deal with us, if we can.

Our service is unashamedly a little old fashioned, ensuring we follow up on promises to customers, and phoning back when we said we were going to. We also do our best to ensure the customer receives their order next day. You can also talk to us about flexible payment terms, if needed.

We have access to numerous solenoids manufactured by Johnson Electric under their Ledex brand.

Please contact us if you need technical assistance about them or any of our products – our team of expert operatives will be happy to help.

Whether you want to place an order for Solenoids or to get assistance. We look forward to hearing from you!

Intelligent Fuse Solutions for Battery Systems

  • Ultra-Low Contact Resistance for High Efficiency
  • High Contact Reliability for Low Signals
  • Enhanced Wear Resistance for Long‑Term Contact Integrity
  • Supports Miniaturization and High‑Power Density Design

The Schurter three-terminal fuses STTP 9550 combine conventional overcurrent protection with an actively triggered overcharge protection function, providing an additional layer of safety for lithium-ion battery systems.

In addition to current-dependent interruption, the integrated trigger terminal enables controlled activation in critical operating conditions. This allows reliable disconnection of charge and discharge paths even in the event of protection IC or FET failure.

Gold-plated terminals ensure low and stable contact resistance, high signal integrity, and
excellent corrosion resistance. The compact package supports high-power-density battery pack
designs ranging from 1 to 24 cells.

Applications:
Typical applications include energy storage systems, power tools, UPS equipment, e-bikes, e
scooters, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs). Supported by UL approvals and designed for
redundant protection architectures required by modern battery safety standards, three-terminal
fuses provide a robust and intelligent protection solution for advanced energy systems.

PPTC: Compact Protection for Maximum Reliability

Schur PPTC pic

The new PPTC series PFTA, PFTB, PFTC and PFTL provide reliable resettable overcurrent
protection for modern electronic applications. In the event of a fault, the polymer PTC device
automatically increases resistance to effectively protect systems against overloads and short
circuits — without replacing fuses.

The portfolio includes radial leaded and SMD versions with current ratings from 0.05 to 5 A and
voltage ratings up to 72 V. UL-compliant flame-retardant materials and compatibility with
automated assembly processes make these series ideal for industrial high-volume applications.

Applications:
Typical applications include energy storage systems, power supplies, industrial electronics,
consumer electronics, automotive systems, wearables, SSDs and Li-ion batteries. The compact
PFTL SMD series additionally enables space-saving designs with high integration density.
