Solenoids
What are Solenoids?
A solenoid is a type of electromagnet formed by a helical coil of wire. When an electric current passes through this coil, it generates a controlled magnetic field. Here are some key points about solenoids:
Structure: A solenoid typically consists of a long piece of wire wound into a coil. The length of the coil is substantially greater than its diameter
Magnetic Field: The electric current flowing through the coil produces a uniform magnetic field inside the solenoid. This field can be used to create linear motion or to control other magnetic fields
Applications: Solenoids are widely used in various devices, including car starters, doorbells, and washing machines. They convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, making them essential in many electromechanical systems
What Do We Supply?
We supply a great range of solenoids, including:
AC Laminated Solenoid
DC C-Frame Solenoid
DC D-Frame Solenoid
Linear Solenoid
Rotary Solenoid
Why Choose E. Preston?
Since our inception in 1980, our business focus has been on providing two things: a reputation for outstanding customer service, and an unbeatable range and stock of electrical and electronic components.
We feel we have achieved that at E Preston, and that probably explains our company growth over the years. We do not want to become complacent though, and we always work hard to exceed customer’s expectations when they deal with us, if we can.
Our service is unashamedly a little old fashioned, ensuring we follow up on promises to customers, and phoning back when we said we were going to. We also do our best to ensure the customer receives their order next day. You can also talk to us about flexible payment terms, if needed.

The connector system for quick, easy, and safe bus cabling and signal applications. It meets all the requirements of modern building installation.
Low-Voltage Technology These connectors are used to distribute signals in buildings, in parallel to the distribution of power. Mechanical coding and clear assignment with different colors facilitate assembly. Complex installations can be realized with just four basic components – from the sub-distribution unit to any point of use. The connectors come as male and female connectors complete with strain relief and can be used to connect any current type of cable.
The BST14 are designed according to the KNX manual.
The 5G2.5/4+2X1.5 flat cable with shielded bus, as per the KNX manual, is available for the combined distribution of energy and signals.
Best Choice Value Program This product is part of our exclusive Best Choice program and has been carefully selected to provide you with maximum efficiency, reliability, and flexibility.
Proven quality: Meets the highest standards and is ideal for plug-in electrical installations.
Quick availability: As a Best Choice product, it benefits from prioritized stock and is always ready for short-term delivery.
Perfect for your application: Ideal for common applications and seamlessly compatible with our system solutions.
Electrification is advancing across all industries – from electric vehicles and charging infrastructure to energy storage, aerospace, and fuel cells. As a result, the demand for reliable protection mechanisms in high-voltage systems is increasing. With the new Pyrofuse-APO Series, Schurter launches a fuse technology that sets a new benchmark for safety.
Unlike conventional fuses, the APO Fuse operates actively. In the event of a short circuit or accident, the control unit sends a trigger signal to an integrated micro gas generator. Within milliseconds, the generator produces high pressure that drives a piston to mechanically sever the solid copper busbar. The resulting arc is safely suppressed in a dedicated extinguishing chamber. The outcome is a complete galvanic isolation in less than two milliseconds – with measured values as fast as 0.9 ms.
The APO Series is rated for operating voltages up to 1000 volts and continuous currents up to 400 amperes. With an ultra-low internal resistance in the range of only a few dozen micro-ohms, power losses and temperature rise remain minimal. Its high breaking capacity ensures safe interruption even under extreme short-circuit conditions, while the fully encapsulated design prevents the release of gases or particles.
This unique combination of speed, robustness, and efficiency guarantees maximum system safety. At the same time, the compact design allows for seamless integration into existing architectures and relieves downstream components such as contactors.
With the Pyrofuse-APO Series, Schurter strengthens its position as a technology partner for emobility and the energy transition. Whether in electric vehicles, aerospace applications, or stationary storage systems, the APO Fuse ensures that high-voltage systems remain reliably protected – even under the most demanding conditions.
