E-T-A not only offers electronic overcurrent protection and thermal or thermal-magnetic circuit breakers, but another type of protection: magnetic and hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers. What characterises these devices and in which applications are they used?
Circuit breakers and protectors with magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic trip principle are extremely fast and ensure genuine physical isolation. In the event of a short circuit, the magnetic trip mechanism disconnects a defective circuit almost without delay. The circuit is disconnected even at low overloads. The
hydraulic-magnetic trip principle provides an intentional delay in the overload range. You can choose from a wide range of device versions.
The 808 version is a single-pole, polarised circuit breaker with magnetic fast trip mechanism. An uncomplicated switching system ensures eliable disconnection even for the smallest overcurrents. The device can also be used for impulse tripping. The compact design and the fast reaction time are specifically suitable for PCB mounting to protect sensitive electronic components installed there. The device is available with fixed current ratings from 0.01 A to 5 A, which makes this circuit protector highly suitable for fragile loads. Another quality feature is its low temperature sensitivity. Thanks to its extremely compact design of only 30 x 20 x 10 mm (H x W x D) when installed, the 808 version can be mounted on virtually any PCB.
E-T-A’s 8335 circuit breakers for equipment protection are available as single- or multi-pole version with magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic trip principle. They provide toggle actuation, front panel mounting, different characteristic curves and optional auxiliary contacts. The precise switching mechanism ensures reliable disconnection through an independent tripfree mechanism even for the smallest overcurrents.
Like all magnetic devices, they feature low temperature sensitivity at rated load. They are available with a rated current range from 1 A to 50 A and have a very compact design. They are suitable for AC and DC voltages.
The 8335 devices offer economic overcurrent protection for telecommunication applications in the Economy Power-D-Box®. This a a compact power distribution system with only two height units (HU). The redundantly designed rack can be customised with plug-in type magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic 8335 or 8340 circuit breakers.
This product group is very attractive - not only because of the already mentioned benefits of the hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers - but also because of its many mounting options. Type 8340 and 8340-F devices are available with flange or snap-on mounting. This design version is suitable for the use in the telecommunications / datacom industry. In industrial applications, however, DIN rails are more commonly used. This area is covered by the 8340-T version. The users here appreciate the 8340-T specifically because of its integral auxiliary contacts and the wide temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. The 8340-G version is mounted via threadneck. They are normally used e.g. in rail vehicle applications.
When you need a device with many different approvals, the 8345 is the device of choice. With a slim design of only 19 mm, the device can carry rated currents of up to 125 A, which is more than any other device of this product class. It is available with instantaneous, extremely fast or very slow trip curve. It can be extended with additional module options for signalling or remote trip. Thanks to its international approvals, this device can be used in telecommunication applications worldwide and protects the digitisation hardware against damage caused by overcurrents.
