Finder 77 Series Solid State Relays Deliver Silent, High-Speed, Long Life Switching

July 16, 2010

Finder.jpg

Finder has introduced a pair of solid state relays for silent, high-speed switching of single and 3-phase loads rated at up to 5A.  The 77 Series relays’ 300A peak current handling capability makes them particularly suitable for use with high inrush current loads, including electronic starters and igniters for fluorescent and gas discharge lamps.

Two 77 Series relay variants are available:  ‘zero-crossover’, minimising voltage and current stresses to improve reliability and greatly reduce EMI, and ‘instant switching’, ensuring a consistent time between relay input and output, of importance where simultaneous switching is desirable as in 3-phase switching.

The relays have a single AC output and can be specified with either AC or AC/DC control inputs for added flexibility.  5kV insulation between input and output assures a high level of application safety and security.  Provided in a compact 17.5mm wide housing for 35mm rail mounting, the 77 Series also features an LED operational status indicator and an integral heat sink.

The solid state relay’s spark- and bounce-free switching characteristics ensure a virtually infinite electrical life, of particular benefit in high-speed, repetitive applications and in domestic and office environments, where electrical interference needs to be kept to the absolute minimum.

Finder's Surge Protection Devices (7P Series) Meet Statutory Requirements for Lightning Strike Protection

February 10, 2009

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced the introduction of the 7P Series of Surge Protection Devices (SPD), developed specifically to comply with BS-EN62305: Protection Against Lightning, providing protection against lightning strikes, or surges caused by short circuit and contact switching in electrical systems.

The 7P SPD Series employs replaceable varistors, enabling the cost effective replacement of the active element of the SPD when required.  As Type 2 arresters for single-phase and three-phase electrical system, they will appeal to the design and manufacture of systems and electrical equipment for use in buildings, where the safety issues associated with lightning have to be addressed.

FIN0058_7PSeries.jpg

There are four versions in the 7P Series, all of which provide visual and remote signalling of varistor status, providing a clear indication to building maintenance personnel when replacement is needed.

The publishing of the BS-EN62305 series fundamentally changed the way the UK addresses the issue of lightning protection for buildings and makes the assessment of the associated risks and their mitigation a statutory requirement.

Virtually all elements of a building’s structure, its electrical services and the electrical equipment within it must be considered for the risk aspects associated with the potential for lightning strikes.

Protection devices such as the Finder SPD range are employed to reduce the risk of hazards to life and physical damage to persons, reduce the risks of damage to structures and services and to minimise failure of electrical and electronic systems and equipment within the structure of a build.

Finder’s 7P series is available in 4 different versions:

Single-phase systems:
7P.21.8.275.1020 Varistor protection (L - N)
7P.22.8.275.1020 Varistor protection (L - N) + spark gap
protection (N - PE)

3-phase systems:
7P.24.8.275.1020 Varistor protection (L1, L2, L3-N) + spark gap protection (N- PE)
7P.25.8.275.1020 Varistor protection (L1, L2, L3 - N) + varistor protection (N-PE)

Finder Relays Extends it's 19 Series of 35mm DIN Rail Module Relay

December 5, 2008

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced new additions to its 19 Series of 35mm DIN rail module relays, adding override and status monitoring modules to the series.

Building management system (BMS) designers, panel builders and installers will find the new override modules essential for providing a manual override of a BMS controller or programmable logic controller, in an emergency situation or during maintenance.

FIN0057_19Series.jpg

The ability to manually override automatic systems provides crucial control in an array of situations, control that is typically missing in such systems.  This may include a controller failure, or where maintenance or safety issues must take precedence.

Typically this can provide control over pumps, fans solenoid valves or motors, where manual intervention is required.

The status modules address a significant drawback of commercial or proprietary controllers; a lack of clear visual signal identification.  The new status module allows BSM and panel designers to set the colour of the status LED during installation, to create a more obvious alert indication.  This enables quick identification of operational status, particularly in complex systems, minimising downtime during fault conditions or routine maintenance.  An analogue output module has also been added to the range, providing a user-defined output between 0 – 10V, for proportional output setting or speed adjustment.

Finder Compact Ceiling-Mount PIR Movement Detectors (Type 18.21 & 18.31) Suit Lighting Installations

September 3, 2008

Finder.jpg

The Type 18.21 and Type 18.31 ceiling-mount PIR movement detectors from Finder have been designed to detect the presence of body heat and movement within a defined sensing area, for the control of lighting in commercial, industrial and domestic premises.

There is considerable pressure to reduce energy consumption in public buildings and the workplace, both for reasons of cost and to meet legislative demands for more energy-efficient control of lighting, and these detectors will be of interest to designers, engineers, contractors and installers of lighting control systems for offices, factories, workshops, schools, hospitals, care homes and similar environments. They are particularly suitable for use in areas that do not require continuous lighting, such as stairwells, corridors, store rooms and washrooms.

FIN0047_PIRDetector.jpg

The 18.31 is a shallow depth flush mounting recessed unit that offers neat, unobtrusive mounting in either suspended or plasterboard ceilings, even where space is limited, while the 18.21 is a low profile surface mounting version that is suitable for more solid surfaces where recessing is not practical. Both models feature a 110º sensing angle that provides coverage over an area of up to 8m diameter, and both also benefit from an integral adjustable threshold light sensor that allows operation to be varied relative to the ambient light level. An adjustable on-time gives the advantage of an adjustable delay before the lights are turned off after the detection of movement ceases.

Both versions are rated at 10A and 230V AC, and have a nominal lamp power rating of 1kW for incandescent and halogen bulbs and 350W for compensated fluorescent lights.

Packaged in a compact white plastic housing, these competitively priced products are ideally suited to a wide variety of installations.

Finder Relays (10 Series) for Automatic Lighting Control Feature Unique Light Feedback Compensation

July 31, 2008

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced the new 10 Series light dependent relays, which have the ability to control lighting according to ambient light levels. These relays will be of particular interest to designers, specifiers and installers both of lighting and of lighting control systems, and will find applications in the automatic control of exterior lighting around factories, loading bays, schools, offices and similar areas where lighting is required for security or safety reasons during the hours of darkness.

FIN0056_10 Series.jpg

There is a growing need to reduce energy consumption, maintenance and replacement costs by ensuring that essential exterior lighting is lit only during times when the ambient natural light falls below an acceptable level, and it is this requirement that the 10 Series has been developed to address.

The 10 Series relays feature an integral photoelectric sensor combined with innovative light feedback compensation circuitry designed by Finder, which prevents the controlled lighting from ‘hunting’ on and off due to the perceived increase in ambient light when lights are automatically turned on. This feedback capability is achieved by monitoring the effect of the controlled lighting over a ten-minute period, which ensures compatibility with slow starting gas discharge lamps. ON and OFF delay times are reduced to zero for the first three cycles, which aids set up and commissioning and reduces installation time.

The new family of relays includes both single-pole and two-pole output types rated at 16A, and also a miniature type, 10.51, with a single 12A output. The double output 16A 10.32 allows Live and Neutral switching, while model 10.41 has a single 16A NO output for Live switching.  All the relays in the series operate from either a 120V or 230V AC supply.

The ambient light switching level is adjustable in the range 1 – 80 lux, and the relays are capable of switching up to 2.3kW of incandescent or halogen lighting, allowing the switching behaviour to be optimised according to both the needs of the individual application and the physical location of the unit.

Finder Launches Call and Reset Relays for Remote Alarm Call Systems

July 30, 2008

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced the 13.12 Call and Reset Relay, which is designed to activate an alarm at a remote point and provide local indication of activation. The relay will be of particular interest to designers and installers of attendant call systems in hospitals and care homes, and to contractors involved in the provision of facilities into residential and commercial buildings where occupants may need to call for assistance.

FIN0055_1312.jpg

An ageing population is creating a growing demand for both short-term and long-term facilities providing care and supervision - hospitals, care homes, assisted living developments, hotels and similar premises - and the means to summon assistance in these facilities is a fundamental requirement. The 13.12 relay is a conveniently packaged product that addresses this need, and which can easily be installed in new buildings or retrofitted in existing sites.

The 13.12 features dual outputs, offering the facility for both a remote alarm signal and a local indication of activation to be activated simultaneously. Independent set and reset inputs provide flexibility in the location of activation and acknowledgement points. The relay output contacts are rated at 8A, which means that they are capable of directly switching incandescent lamp loads up to 800W. Set and reset inputs are both continuously rated, so that no damage is caused to the product if it is inadvertently left permanently activated. The relays are suitable for 35mm rail or panel mounting if an additional bracket is used. The length of the cable run between the set/reset points and the unit can be up to 100m, allowing multiple units to be placed in a convenient centrally located control panel for ease of maintenance and space saving.

The 13.12 relays are housed in a compact 17.5mm single unit width rail mounting enclosure.
