A timer is a simple automation component which is used to manage actions over a period of time or control how long actions last. The timer is a control device which triggers an action according to a time and a function. After a predefined time has elapsed, the timer closes or opens one or more contacts. Timing cycles, whether single shot or repetitive, are started by latching inputs or pulsed inputs, allowing a wide variety of functions to be created.
Timers can be found in electrical cabinets associated with other automation functions for the following markets:
• Food industry
• Industrial automation systems
• Lighting
• Building equipment
• HVAC
• Small or large industrial machines

Where the need exists to control lighting, temperature or other functions according to daylight hours, Finder’s Astro 12.81 time switch is an innovative, easily programmable time switch, which employs a unique digital program to calculate sunrise and sunset times by simply entering the location’s postcode with a single joystick. Its newest version now offers added flexibility, with the capability to override the Astro ON time with time-switch settings, thus further avoiding energy wastage.
With ever increasing pressures to reduce energy consumption, the Astro will control lighting, heating/cooling and humidity equipment in commercial, residential and industrial applications wherever sunrise and sunset times are critical in determining operational times, or where stipulated by local or national regulatory requirements.
The Astro’s micro-controller stores postcode data from 16 European countries, including the UK, which together with date information allows for the precise calculation of seasonal sunrise and sunset times. The Astro is also programmable using geographical coordinates, settable between 30°S and 64°N; 16°W and 50°E. The Astro will also automatically compensate, should European Summer Time be enabled.
For further versatility, the output switching can be advanced or retarded about the calculated sunrise (or sunset) time in 10-minute increments — up to a maximum of 90 minutes. A manual override of the output status allows for maintenance or one-off events.
With a 16 A 250 V AC rated output contact and a 120 A 5 ms peak current rating, the Astro time switch is capable of directly switching 2000W halogen, 750W compensated fluorescent, 200W CFL or LED lamp loads and AC15 loads up to 750VA.
The integral back-up battery, which is easily replaceable from the front, features an automatic power save mode which helps extend battery life.

Finder new 83.52 Multi-Function and Multi-Voltage Timer incorporates eight of the more specialised timing functions.
Utilising microprocessor electronics, the 83.52 is suitable for applications where it is necessary or desirable to have the timing period remotely adjustable – through the remote potentiometer facility. For example, for control of public showers, using the SHp, so called ‘shower’ function, or for other coin-triggered applications in general.
The timer may also be used, for example, where pool table lighting is controlled by a 83.52 mounted within the customer accessible coin acceptance box, but the time itself is controlled from behind the bar.
The output contacts are configurable as two timed, or one timed and one instantaneous, eliminating the need for an additional relay in self-hold applications.
Finder’s new 83.52 provides panel builders, systems integrators, OEMs and individual electricians with a more flexible and economical off-the-shelf solution to virtually any timing application.

7 new Chronos 2 Timers, 2 new Level Control Relays and 2 new Phase Control Relays are now available in a more compact DIN Rail package ideal for modular use
Crouzet Control, a brand of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), is pleased to announce the availability of 11 redesigned Chronos 2 Timers and Control Relays now available in an improved DIN rail modular housing with the same profile as the Crouzet C-lynx product family.
The 7 new 22.5 mm DIN Rail mounted Chronos 2 Timers (RA2R1, RQR1, RQR6, RU2R1 RU2R3, RU2R4 & RX2R1) replace timers previously offered in a 22.5 mm wide industrial housing. The new 22.5mm DIN rail mounted housing is also similar to the new 17.5 mm Chronos 2 Timers featuring the same terminal block position for perfect panel alignment. The new 22.5 mm timers also feature 2 SPDT relays rated at 8 A / 250 VAC and are just 8 mm higher than the 17.5 mm version with one output relay. New Chronos 2 timers have the same rated supply voltage and electrical specifications as previous industrial housing versions.
ENR and ENRM Level Control Relays have also been redesigned in a new 22.5 mm DIN Rail housing replacing 22.5 mm wide industrial models. A new universal supply voltage of 24 to 240 VAC VDC allows them to replace 8 existing part numbers with similar or improved features per model.
The new 17.5 mm MWS Phase Control Relay featuring an 8 A output rating replaces both the 17.5 mm MWS and 22.5 mm EWS series. The redesigned 22.5 mm EWS2 replaces the existing EWS2 featuring a more compact housing allowing modular installation.
All new Chronos 2 Timers and Control Relays are C-UL-US Listed, CE certified to the IEC Low Voltage Directive and compliant with the RoHS Directive.
