Finder Relays Introduces PCB Mounting Sockets for Flagship 46 Series Industrial Relays

February 28, 2008

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced the launch of the 97.11 and 97.12 sockets for PCB mounting of its 46 series miniature industrial relays. These sockets allow engineers designing power control equipment to mount a plug-in power relay with robust terminals in a simple manner onto a PCB. They are particularly suitable for circuit boards where the ability to change power relays quickly is essential for maintenance and the minimising of downtime in the event of a fault.

There is a growing trend towards the use of PCBs in power control applications, but engineers wish to maintain the benefit of rapid component replacement that they enjoy with traditional plug-in rail mounted components – this is the need addressed by these new additions to the 97 Series of sockets.

FIN0051_97series.jpg

The 97.11 and 97.12 sockets have a small 12.4mm x 32mm footprint, minimising board space requirements, and maintain the full 6kV coil-to-contact isolation specification of the relay. An integral retaining clip ensures that the relay is firmly retained when used in applications where they may be subject to shock or vibration, and the sockets carry C UR approval for the US.

The 46 Series relays, which fit the sockets, includes both single-pole and two-pole contact configurations for use in control panels and systems. The relays are fully terminal-compatible with the de-facto industry standard, with Faston spade/blade terminals that provide secure and reliable connections between the relay and the 97 Series socket.

The new sockets complete the line up of 46 series relay mounting options that already include a range of 35mm rail mounting sockets – the 97.01 and 97.02 screw connection models and the 97.51 and 97.52 screwless connection versions – as well as flange-mounting and direct-rail mounting adaptors that allow the use of either Faston or soldered connection to the relay terminals. All the 97 Series rail mounting sockets will accept the full range of 99.02 coil indication and suppression modules and the 86.30 bi-function, multi-range timer modules.

Crydom Becomes The First Solid State Relay Manufacturer To Get UL Certification For 100kA Short Circuit Current Ratings

December 13, 2007

clogo.jpg

October 25, 2007 - Crydom, an operation of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), announces the first solid state relays available on the market with UL approved short-circuit current ratings (SCCR). These relays facilitate industrial control panel builders' efforts to comply with the new article 409 from NEC and the latest version of UL508A, both request SCCR marking, by providing them with pre-approved ratings for SSR/fuse combination.

CWD.jpg

According to Dr. Oscar Montero, from the Crydom Global Technical Center, "Standard 5kA SCCR on power devices prevents panel builders from offering panels with higher ratings. Panels with a higher SCCR could be connected to electrical systems with different available currents bringing market advantages for panel builders. However, establishing a higher SCCR may represent significant challenges and additional costs for panel builders."

Crydom's approved ratings allow panel builders to establish the SCCR for the branch circuit where the relay is located without performing additional testing. The ratings can be added directly to the manufacturer's procedure. Hence, effectively reducing the time-to-market cycle for the panel and cost associated to compliance.

Crydom has obtained UL approval for SCCR by testing the combination SSR/Fuse under the "umbrella fuse" requirement allowing more flexibility to Crydom customers to mix and match SSR and fuses of different ratings.

Arcolectric Temperature Micro-Logger

August 24, 2007

ARCOLOGO-2004_140px1.gif

Arcolectric have introduced the Temperature Micro-Logger, an intelligent panel mounted device that monitors and stores temperatures for downloading over a wireless data link.

The device is ideal for applications where monitoring process temperature is important, particularly within the food preparation industry. It is especially useful for food storage, retail displays and prepared food outlets where accurate record keeping is essential. The Temperature Micro-Logger adds advanced logging functionality to a food storage unit for little cost increase, much smaller than would be expected by the end user.

 temp-logger.jpg

The Micro-Logger provides a clear and simple visual indication of the temperature conditions within the piece of equipment, utilising a simple go/no-go display principal. Blue LED illumination indicates when process temperatures are within safe limits. The display changes to a Red indication if the safe temperature limits are ever exceeded. Temperature measurement range can be set between -30ºC and +80ºC.

Designed for quick installation, the Micro-Logger has an industry standard snap-in profile, with a temperature sensor on flying leads for convenient remote mounting. The product can directly replace the mains neon indicator usually found on freezers, refrigeration and cold storage equipment, providing a fast, cost-effective upgrade of non-compliant or un-monitored equipment.

The temperature data is logged into an internal non-volatile memory at user programmable time intervals ranging from 1 second to 12 hours. Up to 14,000 measurements can be stored. The data can be downloaded via the built-in wireless infrared communication port using a PDA, Notebook or laptop computer and is time and date stamped, simplifying reporting and providing documented evidence of historical storage temperatures.

Retailers and producers need to ensure food products are kept at the recommended safe temperatures, and for self-protection, adequate temperature records must be kept. Complying with the relevant food storage regulations does not lay with the equipment manufacturer; it is the responsibility of the equipment end user. The addition of the Micro-logger to an item of food storage equipment enables manufacturers to supply added value to end users, and a facility to contribute to complying with the regulations.

The Micro-Logger carries UL, CE and FCC approvals
