These innovative filters are optimized for the requirements of photovoltaic systems and make available, for the first time, Schaffner’s extensive application experience with PV systems to the broad market.
Along with appropriately sized EMC/EMI filters on the mains side, FN 2200 DC filters help to meet the limits of EN 61000 and other binding EMC standards, which are often referred to for PV installations in Europe and other regions. Further, they help to increase the service life of the solar panel, improve its reliability, and reduce potential interference radiations off the panel, by keeping inverter-born high-frequency and leakage currents away.
The new FN 2200 filters require up to 30% less installation space compared to traditional solutions. They also convince with minimum power loss of <0.0008% related to the rating of the inverter and thus help to maximize PV system efficiency.
FN 2200 is available with ratings from 25 to 1500A at 55°C and for voltages up to 1200VDC. Filters without filter capacitors to ground (FN 2200B) are available upon request. All models are UL, CSA, and ENEC approved and RoHS compliant.

Passive harmonic filters are an excellent tool for improving the compatibility of motor drives with the public power grid. Schaffner extends the popular ECOsine™ product range with filters for 690V systems, supporting a straightforward upgrade from standard motor drives to «low harmonic drives».

The new passive 690V harmonic filters are an ideal solution for 3-phase equipment with 6-pulse front-end rectifiers, like e.g. variable speed drives or battery chargers.
Frequency inverters for energy efficiency and speed control of electric motors can, in combination with ECOsine™ filters, be utilized as low harmonic drives, causing minimum system perturbation. As a result of the significant reduction in total harmonic current distortion (THID) to typically 5%, ECOsine™ filters can uniquely guarantee compliance with the toughest requirements of IEEE-519 and other stringent international power quality standards. Drive and filter combined allow for unconditional use without the need for a costly power quality analysis in each case. The new ECOsine™ filters FN341xHV are rated for 690VAC/50Hz grids like those often used in chemical plants, in oil and gas exploration, or in heavy industry. The filters are available as a standard for diode rectifiers (FN3410HV) and upon request for thyristor rectifiers (FN3411HV). They come in common steps of power rating from 7.5 to 250kW. Latest generation electronics enable an intelligent and adaptive compensation of harmonic currents with a response time of less than 300 microseconds.
The use of ECOsine™ Active supports the owner in complying with the stringent international harmonics standards as well as with local utility codes. The low-leakage filter FN 2450 expands the Schaffner product offering of suppression components in plastic housings, which optimally combine innovative lightweight designs with a high level of functionality, safety and ergonomics.
The innovative use of plastic materials and the elimination of potting compound allow a significant weight reduction, in comparison to conventional EMC/EMI component designs. The EMC-compatible HF contact to ground is ensured by a metal base plate.
Integrated terminals in the housing enable reliable contact from the top with the automatic torque wrench. Built-in safety covers, which for the purpose of installation can be easily folded forwards and backwards using a captive swivel mechanism, are provided as standard for protection against unintended contact with live clamping elements.

The popular FN 3280 filter family from Schaffner is now also available for higher power applications thanks to its new frame sizes 300A, 400A and 600A. Complementing the existing series, the new filter models convince with their superior EMC performance, compact dimensions, and low leakage current.
By expanding its FN 3280 series, Schaffner, the international leader in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility and power quality, has made it possible, for the first time, to use high-performance EMC/EMI filters in four-wire technology for higher-power applications.
The new 300A, 400A and 600A models are particularly designed for use in large industrial machines and plants with numerous motor drives, long motor cables, and high interference levels. Schaffner, the international leader in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, has added two new products to its extensive range of filtered IEC connectors. IEC connectors and IEC filter connectors are commonly used in applications where the power cord needs to be disconnected from the end product, particularly for portable devices or to be able to deliver a product with a country-specific power cord and plug. The integrated EMC filter and IEC inlet component from Schaffner offers a cost effective solution which helps users to attain EMI approvals as well as reducing the number of components in a system. This also offers savings on handling and logistics costs at the manufacturing facility.
The new high performance, competitively priced, Schaffner FN 9244 series offers approximately 10dB more noise attenuation than the existing FN 9222 in the same compact package making it ideal for noisy applications. Medical versions meeting IEC/EN 60601-1 are available standard options. Reliability is enhanced by the use of a saturation resistant core and good thermal behaviour. High differential and common-mode attenuation is achieved and current ratings are up to 15A. Snap-in mounting versions are available to fit panel thickness from 0.7 to 2.2mm and a wide mounting flange option may be specified for ruggedised products, all models are RoHS compliant. The complementary FN 9244E offers the same high performance and functionality as the standard FN 9244 with the inclusion of an earth line choke for additional EMC suppression on the earth line.
The new FN 9244 IEC medical standard inlet filters have been developed in response to requests from our customers for high performance, compact, filtered mains connectors. We have made them the same size as our existing filter range enabling our customers to change from a standard to a high performing product without making any mechanical changes. We have improved the performance of medical grade filters without Y capacitors and employed a new plastic magnetic core which fulfils the air isolation and creepage requirements for the medical market. Our range of filtered sockets now includes the general purpose FN 9222, high performance FN 9233, and the new very high performance FN 9244 where the main performance improvement is at low frequencies between 150 kHz and 10 MHz. In addition we have added the FN 9244E version which has an integrated earth line choke.
Typical specifications include, maximum continuous operating voltage 250VAC @ 50/60Hz, operating frequency dc to 400Hz, protection category IP40 according to IEC 60529, temperature range (operation and storage) -25°C to +85°C, design corresponding to UL 1283, CSA 22.2 No. 8 1986, IEC/EN 60939 and MTBF @ 40°C/230V (Mil-HB-217F) 2,230,000 hours.

Schaffner’s new IEC inlet EMC filters offer small
form factor, cost effective performance attenuation.
Schaffner, the international leader in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, has extended its range of filtered IEC inlets in response to a strong demand for a wide mounting flange version coming from the Asian market as well as the need to have backward compatible products for older models nearing their end of life. The new larger mounting flange offers an increased conductive area for safety and optimum filter performance.
This enlargement of the FN9222 IEC Inlet filter series meets growing market demand and completes the FN9222 filter series. At the same time the opportunity has been taken to rationalise the whole of Schaffner’s IEC inlet filter range by integrating the functionality of the existing FN321 filter within the current FN 9233 series. The new FN 9222 and FN 9233 IEC Inlet filter families employ the same standardised housing and materials ensuring cost effective filter solutions for Schaffner’s customers.
The new FN 9222U features the new wide mounting flange, is rated up to 15A and has the usual options available such as an on board bleed resistor and a medical version. The FN 9222UZ filter also has the wide mounting flange version and includes a metal oxide varistor (MOV) for surge pulse protection.
The FN9233UF2 completes the extension to Schaffner’s filtered IEC connector range updates. It also features the wide mounting flange and in addition includes two X capacitors, one at line side and one at load side. The Y-capacitors are increased from 2.2nF to 3.3nF. This gives the FN 9233UF2 better high frequency attenuation performance.
The new high performance, small form-factor FN 9222 and FN 9233 products share many common features such as rated currents up to 15A, excellent attenuation performance, optional earth line choke, optional medical versions (B type), snap-in versions (S and S1 type) and hot inlet versions (HI type).
The FN 9233 and FN 9233E IEC inlet filter modules have been developed for systems or switching power supply units that require a high level of interference suppression. Compared with the standard FN 9222 filter family the new FN 9233 series offers higher symmetrical and asymmetrical attenuation performance. The FN 9222E and FN 9233E IEC inlet filters also include an earth line choke, for applications requiring the reduction of interference signals on the earth line.

The FN3280H range of filters is ideal for machine tools with up to 12 driving axes with 10 to 10m of motor cable each likely to be operated in mixed domestic environments and will allow manufacturers to comply with Class A or even Class B filtering. Schaffner Ltd the market leader in EMC components and systems announce the introduction of the FN 2412 series of DIN Rail mounting EMC Filters. This new family of high performance single-phase filters are will fit industry standard TS 35 DIN rails and offer a simple to use, time saving, cost effective solution to conducted EMC suppression for panel builders and control cabinet manufacturers. The extensive range of current and voltage ranges available mean that even special applications can now be protected with an off the shelf solution.
A sophisticated mounting system provides a simple and time saving snap-in mounting of the filters onto TS 35 DIN rails. The innovative shaping of the DIN-rail mounting bracket as well as its material guarantee low-impedance connection to the HF ground ensuring an optimal (asymmetric) filter effect, which has previously only been available by using traditional bolt-down chassis mounting methods. The FN 2412 filters have been designed, electrically and mechanically, to meet the requirements of industrial equipment and control cabinets.
With models available off the shelf for rated currents from 8 to 45 A the correct FN 2412 EMC filter will typically ensure system conformity to Class A limits for Industrial and Residential environments. Owing to the high saturation resistance, this high attenuation performance is available even with very aggressive noise sources and under full load. Schaffner’s specially designed “Touch-Safe” connection terminals make accidental touching of live conductors impossible ensuring maximum safety when in use.
These new filters are designed for a maximum continuous operating voltage of 250 VAC and there is also a standard version FN 2412H available for higher operating voltages up to 520 VAC. All models are safety agency approved to UL, CSA and ENEC and are RoHS compliant.
