DKCV-1 Current-Compensated Chokes for Vertical PCB Mounting
Schurter is launching a new, vertically mountable choke family for PCBs with very high inductances. The DKCV-1 current-compensated chokes are designed for currents from 0.5 to 10 A. Thanks to their nanocrystalline cores, the new chokes have very high inductances with particularly compact dimensions.
Powerful applications in the energy sector are becoming increasingly compact. This compact design combined with high energy efficiency leads to an increase in electromagnetic interference in modern electronic devices. Powerful filter elements are required to suppress this interference. Due to the compact dimensions, the integration of the filter elements on printed circuit boards is an ideal solution. The new DKCV-1 choke series is particularly suitable for applications that require high attenuation.
High Performance in a Compact Design
The nanocrystalline cores enable very high currents with extremely compact dimensions. Thanks to the vertical choke arrangement, they also require very little space on the PCB. All variants of the DKCV-1 family have the same footprint on the PCB.
Applications
The new chokes are ideal for demanding applications that require high inductance with compact dimensions. These include switching power supplies, industrial, medical, laboratory and test equipment. The chokes are suitable for currents up to 10 A and voltages up to 300 VAC or 450 VDC and have ENEC,
cUR and UR approvals. For higher power applications, the DKIV-1 series of chokes is available with rated currents up to 50A.

1-Phase High Current Choke in Vertical Design
• Small footprint on the printed circuit board
• Open design optimizes heat dissipation
• Compact and lightweight
• Nanocrystalline or ferrite ring cores
Schurter expands its range of current-compensated chokes for printed circuit board mounting, to include a series for 1-phase high-current applications. Due to the vertical design, the new DKIV-1 series sports a significantly smaller footprint. The chokes are available with a ferrite or nanocrystalline core for rated currents from 10 A to 50 A. The open design makes the chokes particularly compact and lightweight.
Like all other aspects of electronic design, the power circuit is oftentimes built today using discrete components on printed circuit boards. With the trend toward integrating components, to achieve smaller and smaller form factors, thermal problems and high current on the PCB can become a challenge. Traditional block filters might well address these challenges, but their larger package size also presents challenges due to the mentioned space constraints; therefore, an effective asymmetrical common mode choke, together with capacitors mounted on the PCB, is a better solution
Compact and Lightweight
The new DKIV-1 series is designed for 1-phase applications at rated currents from 10 A to 50 A. Even at the max. rating, the vertical choke requires only a small footprint on the PCB, thus allowing a compact design with high performance. The compact and lightweight current-compensated chokes are throughhole mounted. They are ideal for multistage filter applications, where the combination of a vertical choke (DKIV) with a horizontal choke (DKIH) reduces the mutual interference of the magnetic fields of the individual chokes.
Performance and Approvals
The DKIV-1 current compensated chokes comply with IEC 60938 and with a rated voltage of 300 VAC or 450 VDC, they are suitable for almost any application. The DKIV-1 series is certified for current ratings from 10 to 50 A, 300 VAC according to IEC and UL and 10 to 50 A, 250 VAC according to CSA. The chokes have ENEC and cURus approvals. The DKIV-1 series has been designed for a wide temperature range of -40 °C to +100 °C.

Common Mode Chokes for 4 line Applications mount on PCB
• Compact size and light weight
• Open design for optimal cooling
• Nanocrystalline ring cores
• Customer specific pin configurations available
Schurter expands its successful range of current-compensated chokes with a series for 4-wire high-current applications on printed circuit boards. The new DKIH-4 series is available for three phase applications with neutral line at rated currents from 10 A to 40 A. Due to the open design, the chokes are particularly compact and light.
Like most electronic assemblies, the power section is increasingly being mounted on the printed circuit board with discrete components. However, due to the high integration density required to achieve a compact design, thermal problems can arise due to the high currents on the PCB. EMC interference can affect adjacent modules due to the lack of spatial separation. Therefore, a compact filter on the PCB with discrete components is often the best solution. A current-compensated choke with capacitors is the most efficient method of suppressing EMC interference.
The new DKIH-4 series is suitable for three phase applications with neutral line from 10 A up to 40 A . Light weight and compact, the common mode chokes are easily placed on the PCB with through hole technology (THT). The common mode chokes are designed according IEC 60938 and rated 500 VAC or 760 VAC, making them suitable for almost any applications.
The DKIH-4 has been designed for a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +100 °C. In addition to the standard versions, customer-specific pin configurations or variants can be created on request.
