Schurter now equips its FPG7 shock-safe SMD fuseholder with two stabilizing posts. The added posts extend from the existing front standoffs, providing increased stability during board assembly, and when replacing the fuse. The FPG7 is also the only shock-safe SMD fuseholder on the market for 5x20 mm cartridge fuses.
The trend towards SMD applications continues unabated. In response, Schurter already offers a large selection of SMD components such as fuses and fuseholders in its product range. As part of the Schurter range, the FPG7offers the only shock-safe SMD fuseholder on the market. The newly added stabilizing posts improve the design, by optimizing the stability of the fuseholder during the mounting and soldering process of the PCB. Further, the stabilizing posts help absorb the axial forces that arise when the fuse is being replaced.
With rated power acceptance of up to 2.5 W at 10 A / 250 VAC according to IEC, combined with rated current of up to 16 A at 400 VAC according to UL/CSA, the FPG7 is the ideal solution for applications requiring primary protection. Overall, the FPG7 is well suited for applications where the following requirements must be met: SMD assembly, compact design, primary protection, and external access to fuses. Specific applications in this regard include industrial and medical equipment as well as household appliances. Depending on the application, the customer can select between two fuse cap options, either a slotted version for screw driver access or fingergrip version.
The FPG7 is manufactured with RoHS-conforming materials that are temperature resistant and designed for reflow soldering processes. These materials today meet the requirements for equipment in unattended operation according to IEC 60335-1 and the intensified glow-wire test requirements according to IEC 60695-2. Furthermore, the FPG7 achieves a protection class of IP40 and a shock-safe category of PC2. The blister tape packaging option enables efficient manufacturing using automatic placement machines. All versions of the FPG7 have VDE and cURus approvals.

Schurter's T9 fuseholder style circuit breaker series is now expanded to include model T9-818 for PCB mounting. The new model complements the existing T9 series assortment for panel mounting, providing a complete range of mounting styles equivalent to closed fuseholders
The T9 series circuit breaker with the Model T9-818 for PCB mounting fills a gap in the market. The T9 series feature dimensions comparable to those of traditional fuseholders, and is likewise similarly designed for direct placement on circuit boards. SCHURTER’s existing T9 series features quick-connect
terminal types for front and rear snap in panel mounting, as well as thread neck mounting.
As with all PCB mounted components, assembly costs are considerably lower because fewer materials are used and wires are eliminated to fully automate assembly. In addition, the T9-818 is more compact than quick-connect terminal types and thus requires less space. Furthermore, its slim design means the
reset button protrudes only minimally from the front panel. Two mounting pins provide additional mechanical support on the circuit board and protect the solder connections from additional pressure when the reset button is activated.
The shape of the T9 circuit breaker is very similar to that of a fuseholder and thus offers an excellent alternative to 5x20 fuses and their respective fuseholders, where current surges can lead to premature tripping and aging over time. In contrast, circuit breakers prevent unnecessary down time by eliminating the need for changing fuses, as well as the associated risk of inadvertently inserting a fuse with the incorrect current rating, which may lead to equipment damage.
A further advantage of circuit breakers is the reset button, which springs out to indicate when the device trips. Reset is achieved by a simple push
of the button. Typical application areas for circuit breakers include use in power supplies, UPS systems, PDUs, electric tools, industrial applications, medical diagnostic equipment, analysis systems, lighting fixtures, HVAC products as well as equipment for sports and leisure activities. The T9 product line conforms to these standards: UL 1077, CSA C22.2 235 and IEC 60934.

When it comes to household appliances used in unattended operation, the provisions of standard IEC 60335-1 have in the past few years placed higher requirements regarding glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT). These more stringent requirements thus also apply to installed components such as power sockets, fuse holders and connectors. For this reason, all components carrying current must meet the requirements of glow-wire tests as specified in IEC 60695-2-12 and -13.
As a leading producer of fuse holders and power sockets, Schurter manufacturers a large number of products made of plastic materials with high glow-wire ratings. These are above all shock-safe fuse holders in the successful FPG series, which are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes as well as fuse blocks for assembly on circuit boards. Power connectors rated for 10 A and 16 A, including with a wide range of assembly types and various terminals, also meet these stricter requirements.
Schurter thus fulfills and exceeds the strict guidelines concerning fire prevention for electrical devices that are operated in households unattended. Which appliances are considered to fall under the «unattended» category and thus need components of this glow-wire category is defined in standard IEC 60335-2. Examples of such appliance types are dishwashers, coffee machines, washing machines and kitchen stoves.

With the new UMT-H, SCHURTER is expanding its already extensive offering of SMD fuses. The letter "H" in the product name stands for the high breaking capacity of 1500 A. This
high level makes the time-lag fuse ideal for applications with large short-circuit currents. Initially having six rated currents from 160 mA to 2 A, and having rated voltages up to 277 VAC and 250 VDC, this is truly an all-purpose component. These features and more make the square-shaped UMT-H a compact alternative to cylindrical fuses.
If all electrical specifications are equal, the UMT-H offers several advantages compared to cylindrical fuses, especially during assembly. For example, the square design prevents devices from rolling away during placement or during reflow soldering. Due to the position of the device markings, key information about the fuse can be seen immediately. In addition, the UMT-H from SCHURTER, with dimensions of 5.3 x 16 mm, is somewhat more compact than traditional cylindrical fuses in the 5 x 20 mm format.
Besides a wide range of applications in power circuits and sensors, the UMT-H is particularly well suited for the primary protection of power supply units. A further application area is in industrial electronics. The high breaking capacity of 1500 A and the spacing between the end caps of >10 mm also make these devices useful in applications that involve explosion protection (IEC 60079-11). Further, with a rated voltage up to 277 VAC along with cURus approval, these fuses are ideally suited for lighting applications in the US market.
Features and benefits:
- High rated voltages up to 277 VAC / 250 VDC
- High breaking capacity (H) of 1500 A at rated voltage
- Initially six rated currents from 160 mA to 2 A (others will follow)
- Time-lag (T) characteristics according to UL 248-14
- Compact, square design
- No rolling away during PCB assembly and soldering
