Honeywell BES 24V - An extension of the Honeywell Battery Safety Sensor Portfolio
First Vent Detection | Rate of Change Algorithm | Automotive Grade | 12V & 24V Options
Honeywell has released its 24V Battery Safety Electrolyte Sensor (BES), an extension of the previously launched BES Series. This product extension enables the seamless integration of the BES Series into high‑voltage battery packs that operate on 24V. The Honeywell battery safety sensor portfolio is designed to enhance safety in lithium‑ion, on‑road, and stationary battery applications.

The Battery Safety Electrolyte Sensor (BES) is an automotive-grade sensor designed for early detection of venting and thermal runaway in battery systems. Utilizing an advanced and patented rate of change algorithm, the BES detects battery electrolyte vapor commonly released during the initial venting phase called First Vent, as well as hydrogen and carbon monoxide gases released during a thermal runaway event.
The ability to detect the First Vent provides an essential early warning for potential thermal runaway incidents in Lithium-Ion battery packs. This proactive early detection facilitates timely and appropriate mitigation measures, significantly reducing the risk of thermal runaway. BES employs a patented advanced rate of change algorithm designed to identify significant changes in the concentration of target gases within a sealed battery pack. This innovative method effectively reduces the occurrence of false negatives that may be seen with conventional ppm-based sensors, which focus on precise target gas threshold monitoring. The algorithm is tuned to prevent false positives, improving the end-user experience. Furthermore, the algorithm is supported by more than 12 years of rigorous research and validated through seven years of practical field deployment.
This extensive experience not only enhances the reliability of the detection algorithm but also underscores its effectiveness in real-world applications. BES enhances the safety and reliability of automotive battery systems.

Coin Cell Supercapacitors SCCA, SCCC
Coin cell supercapacitors are compact electrochemical energy storage devices with a high capacity that can quickly store and release electrical energy. Compared to conventional batteries, they offer several advantages, including high power density, a long cycle life, and fast charge and discharge rates.
Power density describes how quickly an energy storage device can release or absorb energy. This is important for applications requiring short-term high energy outputs, such as starting an engine. Supercapacitors have a high power density, which enables them to provide energy quickly. Energy density
indicates how much energy a storage device can hold over a longer period. A high energy density is essential for applications requiring a continuous energy supply.
The new coin cell supercapacitors from Schurter are available for horizontal mounting (SCCA) or vertical mounting (SCCC). They can be used in systems with a voltage of up to 5.5 V and have a capacitance value ranging from 100 to 1,500 mF.
Schurter's new coin cell supercapacitors are used in a variety of applications, including backup power supplies, electronic devices, renewable energy systems and medical devices. While they are most commonly used for real-time clock backup, they can also be used for memory backup, battery swap ride
through and LED or audible alarms.

The SPDT3 device is especially used for fine
protection of user equipment against transient
overvoltage and local protection of sensitive
loads in end circuits.
These SPDs type 3 have a low discharge capacity,
so in order to have a full protection type 3
should be supplementing type 2 SPDs and be
installed in the vicinity of sensitive loads.

MSM II-Switch with common anode control of the RGB LED
The well-established MSM II mechanical switch family is growing. With the MSM II (Common Anode), Schurter is introducing a variant that uses a common anode to control the RGB LED illumination. This combines the familiar robust mechanics with visualization technology for clear feedback, easy integration, and maximum reliability in control and operating solutions.
RGB LEDs can be controlled either via a common anode (+) or a common cathode (–). While with common cathode all negative poles are connected together and the colors are controlled individually via the positive pole, the common anode variant does the opposite: all positive poles are connected, and the color channels are switched separately to ground.
The MSM II (common anode) offers maximum compatibility with modern driver ICs, PLC outputs, and microcontrollers, which are predominantly designed for common anode control. This facilitates integration thanks to a simple signal structure and reduced wiring requirements.
The combination of tactile precision, IP67 protection, robust design, and flexible RGB signaling makes the MSM II switch ideal for a wide range of applications, particularly in industrial control units such as control panels, production facilities, building automation, and access solutions.
