Excellence In Solid State Technology Available In Crydom's DRH Series Of Power Enhanced AC 3-Phase Contactors
Crydom is pleased to announce the new DRH Series of AC Output Solid State Contactors. Based on the same technology and compact 45mm size of the SOLICON DRC, the most innovative compact DIN Rail Mount, IEC standard based contactors in the market, combines all the advantages of a solid state design with the functionality and simplicity of use of an electromechanical contactor.
While the DRC series was intended for motor applications, the DRH Series, thanks to the enhanced power of 20 Amps on each channel, is intended to switch any resistive as well as inductive loads; it is the perfect solution in any heating application in market segments such as Plastic, Packaging, HVAC, Food & Beverage, Printing and Medical. This product is an ideal replacement of electromechanical contactors when higher reliability is needed or when fast cycling is frequent. Their compact size and easy installation make these devices an optimum solution in commercial and industrial applications (e.g. industrial band heaters), especially when retrofitting. Reliable operation is ensured by means of the integrated over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, high I2t and surge current ratings and immunity conformance to industrial standards.
Main features include:
- Rating up to 600 VAC, 18 A (3 controlled legs), 20 A (2 controlled legs)
- Integrated over-voltage protection
- Integrated over-temperature protection
- Alarm output in case of over-temperature
- Enclosed heat sink eliminates the need for protective earth connection
- 4-32 VDC or 90-280 VAC control input
- Multicolor LED with input status and alarm indication
- UL 100 kA Short Circuit Current Rating
- C-UL-US listed, CE compliant
These features make the DRH Series unique in the market with a broader working temperature range (-10ºC to +70ºC), better resistance to surge current (716 Amps), higher resistance to short circuit (2560 A2sec), smaller size and a greater life span (50 million cycles).
All these premium features are included in both available DRH models:
- DRH3P60x18x, Solid State Contactor 3 controlled legs, 18 Amps @40°C
- DRH3P60x20x, Solid State Contactor 2 controlled legs, 20 Amps @40°C
The DRH Series is available in either instantaneous turn-on (typically used for inductive loads or motor loads) or zero voltage turn-on (more often used with resistive loads). Both are available with either 2 or 3 controlled legs.
The high current rating is the result of an innovative design that increases the air flow thus improving the thermal performance. DRH contactors also feature over-temperature protection to avoid overheating in case of a fan malfunction. The internal temperature is constantly monitored and the fan is switched only when necessary in order to extend its lifetime. The LED makes the operator aware of internal temperature rising before it reaches its limit; once reached, the contactor will safely switch off and the alarm output contact will switch on.
Crydom’s DRH Series contactors are C-UL-US Listed and compliant to IEC 60947-4-2 requirements. They are also CE compliant to the Low Voltage Directive as well as the EMC and RoHS Directive.

Named after Sir Walter Scott’s first novel, Paddle Steamer Waverley was built on the Clyde in 1947 – to replace the 1899 Waverley that sunk off Dunkirk during active war service in 1940.
Celebrating 40 years’ sailing in preservation, Waverley has been operated by a charity since 1975 and preserved as a heritage asset for the benefit of communities around the UK. A major £7m two-stage rebuild was undertaken in winters of 1999/2000 and 2002/2003 in Great Yarmouth with the support of the National Heritage Lottery Fund, whereby the huge task of restoration was carried out to get it back to its’ original condition, whilst complying with the newer regulations.
The main engine telegraph and its bell are located both in the engine room and on the navigation bridge. A responsible officer from each of the departments handles the telegraph from these locations.
There became a need for an additional telegraph for use in the event of a problem with the main telegraph, with the parts sourced from various locations to keep the visual authenticity. This in turn created a need for a one-off switch for the selection by the bridge officer to indicate the direction and speed required of the main engine. This was kindly donated by Kraus & Naimer Ltd based in Newbury. The switch itself was made to the specification of the Chief Engineer, a bespoke 12 position multiway switch.
Almost all of Waverley’s machinery including the impressive 2100 IHP main engine, steering and all the main pumps are powered by steam from her two massive oil fired boilers.
The Waverley continues to be maintained in excellent condition with its’ towering funnels, timber decks, gleaming varnish and brass. Sustenance of this relies on the goodwill of businesses to keep costs to a minimum and in turn giving the wonderful opportunity to sail on a paddle steamer to as many people as possible.
Schurter announces its latest IEC appliance outlet with insulation displacement contact (IDC) terminals, the 4710. The new outlet provides increased power ratings over the popular 6610 series for heavier duty PDU applications.
The 4710 is a J style outlet according to IEC 60320, rated 20 A @ 250 VAC by UL/CSA and 16 A @ 250 VAC by ENEC. The lower current version, 6610 series, is a style F outlet, rated 15 A @ 250 VAC and 10 A @ 250 VAC respectively. The 4710 provides IDC terminals for 10 AWG / 6.0 mm2 in addition to 12 AWG / 4.0 mm2, which is the standard wire size for the 6610. The new wire option allows for larger diameter wire for the 4710's increased power capabilities. The Snap-in outlets fit panels with a thickness between 0.8 mm and 3 mm.
The 4710 and 6610 outlets are qualified for use in applications designed to IEC/EN 60950. Ideal for use in power distribution units, and other equipment where multiple outlets are banked in series, these IDC outlets allow wires to be bussed across the terminals, thereby connecting common terminals all at once and significantly reducing labor costs. The IDC terminals are arranged either along or across the connector pin axis for a horizontal or vertical mounting orientation. Wires are pressed into place with the protective back cover or with a tool. Versions with combination IDC and a quick-connect or solder terminal, for separate wiring of the line connection, are also available.
The outlets are offered with light pipe options for status indication. They also mate with V-Lock latching cordsets designed to prevent unintentional disconnection from the power. Approvals include cURus, ENEC and CCC.
