June 8, 2012

Finder.jpg

When safety is paramount and required to conform to increasing amounts of new legislation, Finder’s 7S Series forcibly guided contact relays offer a competitively priced and compact solution for designers and engineers who require confirmation of the functional integrity of critical circuitry.

Class A forcibly guided contacts rated at 6A, 250VAC and conforming to EN50205 requirements, make the 7S Series suitable for many safety related applications.

The screwless terminals allow for quick, vibration-resistant connections, and the availability of 2, 4 and 6 pole versions makes the relays suitable for a wide range of uses in machine and plant control systems and energy generation, as well as water supply and treatment. Utilizing materials that comply with UNI 11170-3 for fire and smoke characteristics, and meeting the requirements of EN 61373 and EN50155 for mechanical and climatic characteristics also ensure they are suitable for railway applications.

With an operating voltage range spanning 0.7 to 1.25 of nominal, Finder’s new 7S Series tolerates a wide supply variation.

Standard gold-plated or notched crown contacts provide high reliability switching, with a minimum load rating of 60mW.

Meeting the requirements of EN 13849-1 for functional reliability in machines and plant engineering, the 7S Series relays are housed in compact 22.5mm rail mounting enclosures equipped with quick-connect cage clamp terminals and LED coil status indication.

E-T-A BMS01 Battery Master Switch for Road Vehicles Carrying Hazardous Goods

May 29, 2012

Switch in Accordance with Latest ADR 2011 Regulations

E-T-A Circuit Breakers, quality designer and manufacturer of a broad range of electro-mechanical and electronic products for circuit protection, offers the BMS01 Battery Master Switch designed for hazardous goods carrying road vehicles that comply with the European International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) regulations. The environmental protection and intrinsically safe control circuitry of the BMS01 are in accordance with ADR 2011. The battery master switch also satisfies the additional requirements of UK operators. The BMS01 will serve as an emergency shut down switch as well as disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicle’s electrical system when loading and unloading.

The double pole E-T-A BMS01 Battery Master Switch is installed close to the vehicle’s battery, between it and the electrical system: it can also be connected to act as a single pole device. The battery master switch can then be operated by means of a control switch in the cab, with optional additional control switches sited around the vehicle as required. Upon disconnection of a control switch, the main contacts of the BMS01 will open after a preset delay to allow for the controlled shutdown of computerised engine management systems. A choice of two delay times is offered, with auxiliary contacts providing output for an audible alarm during the delay period. Additional auxiliary contacts are provided for disconnection of the ignition circuit and de-energising of the alternator field winding. There is also a permanently energised protected output for the tachograph supply.

A choice of low voltage monitoring is available if required: it offers automatic disconnection of the battery after one minute, or signalisation, if undervoltage is detected while the vehicle is idle. This offers protection of the battery from the effects of deep discharge and ensures there is sufficient battery capacity for re-starting the engine.

12v and 24V versions of the BMS01 are available. An integral ATEX-approved safety barrier permits siting of the unit in hazardous areas. The master switch features a housing protected to IP65 with rubber caps on the terminals offering protection to IP54. A bi-colour LED on the body of the master switch provides clear status signalisation of the battery isolation switch and low voltage detection.

E-T-A can supply suitable control switches for the BMS01, protected against inadvertent operation. An externally mounted switch assembly is also available incorporating the green “ON” status indicators mandatory in the UK.

Schaffner RB Series Current-Compensated Chokes for the Circuit Board up to 80A

May 29, 2012

Schaffner 225_31.jpg

Schaffner has added the RB series to its product program of current-compensated chokes. The chokes are available as one- and three-phase designs in horizontal and vertical construction for currents from 16 to 50A.

Characteristic of the RB series are the open construction and clear separation of the windings by the use of a new bobbin design. With forced cooling the chokes can operate with up to 80A. The air gaps and leakage paths are designed for working voltages of up to 600Vac /1000Vdc.

Particular value was set on the pin-out of the chokes to permit a simple layout of the circuit boards. A straightforward circuit path design has advantages in terms of losses and noise suppression, especially for applications at higher current levels.

An application note also provides important information how to integrate EMC/EMI filters into circuit boards.
As a result, the EMC/EMI filtering can be incorporated into the circuit board of power electronic devices, such as inverters for drive applications, for photovoltaic or for charging stations. The RB chokes can be mounted directly to the circuit boards and are thus applicable for electronic devices that are exposed to vibration.

RB chokes comply of course with the RoHS and REACH requirements.

Priority Change Relay, Type 72.42 from Finder, Ensures Even Wear of Alternating Loads

April 19, 2012

Finder.jpg

For installations needing duplicate equipment sets, for reasons of operational security or to meet peak loading demands, Finder has introduced a flexible multi-function priority change relay, providing convenient control of main and secondary systems.  Suiting for example, pumping or refrigeration applications, the 72.42 relay has been designed to alternate the duty of two sets of equipment to ensure even wear over time.

The relay can be configured to alternate the output duty either on successive applications of the supply voltage or via an independent input control signal.  The 72.42 relay also provides a second input enabling both outputs to be forced on in response to a peak demand or an alarm signal.

To minimise any switch-on current surge, the 72.42 relay incorporates an adjustable output delay timer, supporting for example the staggering of pump motor starts.  In addition, where maintenance of either equipment set is needed, the relay will ensure that only the healthy equipment set is made available.

Available in 24V and 110V to 240V AC/DC versions, the 72.42 relay supports a wide supply range and with two independent NO output contacts rated at 12A, 250VAC, is capable of directly switching single phase motor loads up to 0.55kW.  Output status is shown by dual LED indication.

Finder’s priority change relay is provided in a 35mm wide housing and is designed for 35mm rail mounting (EN60715).  The relay terminals are screw type and the unit’s protection category is IP20.
