With a long history of innovation in the connector and EMC marketplace, Schurter expands its range of power entry modules with the introduction of the FMAD and FMAB CEE Connectors, featuring a first of its kind integrated line filter for 1- and 3-Phase industrial and power distribution applications. The integrated filter optimizes suppression of conducted emissions by eliminating cables between the inlet and filter.
The CEE connectors according IEC 60309 are used all over the world for industrial applications and power distribution. The single and three phase connectors can be used for any application with a detachable power cord. Today, noise generating electronics used in machines drive demand for EMI
suppression filters in order to meet international EMC standards. This filter is typically mounted on the metal chassis for optimal performance.
Traditionally, wires are used to connect the power inlet to the EMI filter mounted separately on the chassis. These wires can vary in length and can cause EMC problems with electromagnetic fields generated by a noise source inside the equipment bypassing the filter! The new CEE connector with integrated filter solves this problem by eliminating these wires and making a direct connection between the filtered connector and its metal shield, which is grounded to the panel cut-out. The fully integrated unit can be front or rear panel mounted directly where the power comes into the equipment.
The new FMAB CEE series is suitable for single phase AC applications. It extends the power entry module concept outlined in IEC 60320, where power input is limited to 16 A. Both the FMAB CEE and the FMAD CEE, which is designed for three phase applications, are rated from 16 up to 32 amperes. They are designed and approved according IEC 60309, UL 1283 and CSA 22.2 no. 8. The voltage rating is 250 VAC (IEC, UL, CSA) and 110 / 125 VAC (UL, CSA). The new filter series are suitable for use in industrial appliances exposed to temperatures ranging from -40 to +85C. Screw terminals provide for ease of installation.

The fuseholder standard IEC/EN 60127-6 has been revised to improve fire safety. Effective in October 2017, manufacturers of fuseholders will only be permitted to market products that have been tested and authorized in accordance with the updated standard. Schurter will offer its customers upgraded solutions by the deadline.
Requirements defined for the household appliance standard IEC 60335-1 are also being applied to the fuseholder standard IEC 60127-6. So the requirement with regard to the glow-wire resistance of the material is being increased. Schurter has planed the adaption of the products and its requalifying
and is currently deploying it. That means used materials has to be tested and if necessary replaced with new glow-wire resistant material. Thus these components can be used in unattended electrical household appliances after the change-over.
Besides the fuseholders, IEC appliance inlets and power entry modules with and without EMC filters are also affected if they have a fuse drawer. The order number of the products are not touched. Therefore manufactures using Schurter products do not have to change the approvals.
Detailed information about the revised fuseholder standard and Schurters plan for implementation are available upon request.

Nanocrystalline Common Mode Chokes for 1 and 3-Phase Applications Mount on PCB
Schurter expands its wide range of current compensated chokes with high current types for PCB mounting. The new DKIH series is now available with a nanocrystalline ring core, offering 8 times higher inductance performance than ferrite core versions in the same compact dimension. The new product is designed for single and three phase applications with rated currents from 10 to 50 amperes. Due to its open design, the chokes are light weight and compact, ideally designed to suppress EMI noise caused by power applications on the PCB.
Like all other aspects of electronic design, the power portion is oftentimes built today using discrete components on printed circuit boards. With the trending integration of components, to achieve smaller and smaller form factors, thermal problems and high currents on the PCB can become a challenge.
Traditional block filters might well address these challenges, but their larger package size also presents challenges due to the mentioned space constraints; therefore an asymmetrical effective common mode choke and capacitors mounted on the PCB is a better solution.
The new DKIH-1 series is suitable for single phase AC or DC applications from 10 up to 50 amperes. Light weight and compact, the common mode chokes are easily placed on the PCB with through hole technology (THT). They are designed and approved according IEC 60938, UL 1283 and CSA 22.2 no. 8. The voltage rating is 300 VAC (IEC, UL) and 250 VAC (CSA) with an inductance range of 1.6 to 6.9 mH.
The new DKIH-3 series is suitable for three phase AC applications from 10 up to 50 amperes. The common mode chokes are also designed according IEC 60938 and are rated 600 VAC with an inductance range of 0.7 to 10.8 mH, making them suitable for many applications such as UPS systems, switching power supplies, charge stations for electric vehicles and frequency converters for energy storage.
The DKIH-1 and -3 have a wide temperature range of -40 to +100 °C. They are available with a standard pin out or customer specific pin out. Variations in the winding are also available upon request.

Schurter expands its wide range of power entry modules to include versions, without ground pin, for use in Protection Class II double-insulated applications. The KMF power entry module is already very popular for use in Protection Class I equipment, due to its high functionality in a compact package. The new Protection Class II version is perfectly suited for medical equipment used at home where the medical standard prescribes the use of Protection Class II design.
The new KMF Class II version is according to IEC 60320-1, style C18. It is particularly well suited for use in medical equipment according to the IEC standard 60601-1-11, which outlines additional safety measures specific to medical equipment intended for use in the home. There is increasing demand for such equipment as populations around the world age and healthcare costs continue to rise.
Protection Class II equipment, in contrast to Protection Class I equipment, generally has no metal case. This category of equipment is called double insulated, and requires higher safety levels for energized components relative to exposed surfaces. The KMF Class II power entry module provides double insulation between energized components and exposed parts. This reinforced insulation is tested with a voltage of 4000 VDC between the energized conductor (L) and the neutral conductor (N) relative to the mounting panel.
The KMF line switch is available with a 2-pole line switch and a 1- or 2-pole fuse holder. For medical applications an “extra-safe” fuse holder is available that can only be opened with the aid of a tool. The EMC filter is available in medical and low leakage, M5, versions. This integrated filter at the power input provides highly effective interference suppression, which results in optimized electromagnetic compatibility. Current ratings range from 1-10 A at 250 VAC. Connections is taking place with quickconnect terminals 4.8 x 0.8mm.
The KMF Class I and Class II are ENEC, cURus and CCC approved. They are suited for use in equipment according to IEC 60950, IEC 60601-1, in addition to IEC 60601-1-11.
