Schurter's popular power entry module, KFA series, is now equipped with an additional ground line choke to suppress high frequency interference arising from ground loops on the ground line. In addition, the newly added ground line choke improves asymmetric attenuation in higher frequencies in medical filter versions. The KFA series with existing common-mode choke on the phase and neutral conductors, together with an additional ground line choke, is well enhanced to address the growing EMC challenges facing compliance engineers today.
Ground loops arise through different impedances of different ground line connections in one or multiple pieces of equipment. While all ground connections have the same potential level for the 50 Hz load current, these can have different potential levels for high-frequency interference. The ground line choke, which is wired between the power-inlet connector and the filter output, smartly addresses this phenomenon. Because of its placement directly at the power line input, high-frequency interference currents on the ground line are prevented from bypassing the filter through the equipment housing. The ground line choke isolates the equipment chassis against high frequencies and the equipment ground from the ground on the line power connection. This approach effectively breaks any possible ground loops.
Audio equipment for instance is known for being prone to ground loop problems. Often referred to as hum or buzz, the KFA, with ground line choke, is well suited for suppressing interferences that lead to diminished sound quality. The KFA is also well suited for medical equipment required to use low leakage
filters for increased patient safety. The reduced Y capacitance to ground, or absence thereof, leads to reduced asymmetric attenuation in higher frequencies. The KFA with ground line choke helps to compensate for this reduced performance.
The KFA power entry module includes an IEC C14 power inlet connector with a 1- or 2-pole fuseholder and EMC filter and is available in a wide range of models and designs. The series offers current levels from 1A to 10A at 250 VAC according to IEC and UL standards. The series has ENEC and cURus approvals and is suited for applications according to IEC 60950. Special filter versions, M5 and M80, are available for medical devices according to IEC 60601-1. Wiring is done using quick-connect terminals or wire leads. The KFA is compatible with V-Lock cord sets, designed to safeguard against unintentional disconnection of the power.

Schurter expands its successful range of FMBC NEO 3-phase filters with a low leakage current series for applications where no high leakage currents are allowed. The new FMBC LL series of filters is designed for rated currents between 7 and 180 A. It is ideal for leakage current-critical industrial applications such as drive technology.
Today's electrical industrial installations are increasingly being fitted with residual current devices (RCD) to ensure efficient personal protection. This is also a requirement in certain countries for 3-phase systems, for example plug-in systems up to 32 A. The RCD limits the current to earth to a maximum of 30 mA. This poses a particular problem in drive technology since the frequency inverters that control the engine generate considerable leakage current.
Long motor cables further aggravate the problem since they increase the capacity to earth and hence the currents to earth too. The new series of FMBC LL filters helps reduce the leakage currents and permits compliance with common EMC standards as an efficient input filter.
The compact FMBC LL 3-phase filters have been designed for currents from 7 A to 180 A at an ambient temperature of 50 °C. They have UL approvals for ambient temperatures of +50 °C as well as +40 °C at a higher rated current. The FMBC LL is approved for rated voltages of 520 VAC. This means that they can be used in high-power systems, such as machines used in an industrial environment. Despite their high output performance, they are still compact and
lightweight in design.
The standard FMBC LL is fitted with a screw connection. Other types of connections including wires or copper bars are possible on request as well as customised modifications to the circuit or housing. SCHURTER also offers its own EMC measuring service for an optimum adjustment to the inverter. Therefore the most efficient filter solution for the system can be developed.
Technical Features:
- Rated voltage: 520 VAC
- Rated current: 7 A to 180 A
- Leakage current 7 – 55 A: < 5 mA, leakage current 75 – 180 A: < 20 mA
- Screw connections
- cURus approval: E72928

The new MSM LA CS ON/OFF stainless steel pushbutton switch from SCHURTER is equipped with an actuator made of durable ceramic. The same ceramic is already being used to manufacture the previ-ously introduced MSM CS momentary action switches. The material resists scratches and abrasive chemicals as well as impact; it can also be labeled with highly durable legends.
The non-illuminated versions of the MSM LA CS and MSM CS switches are offered with a white actuator surface. Standard or customer-specific black legends are applied directly into the ceramic material. Due to the base material and the labeling process, the inscription is scratch-proof and stands up to common cleaning agents. The illuminated design provides a uniform glow across the entire surface in the desired illumination color (red, green, blue, white, orange).
The MSM LA CS pushbutton switch is available with mounting diameters of 19 and 22 mm. It is suited for use in a temperature range of -20 °C to +85 °C. Equipped with blade terminals, the MSM LA CS can be wired up very quickly: the pre-assembled cable set is plugged into the quick-connect terminals of the microswitch, which is then snapped into the switch housing.
