With the ESO 10.3x38, Schurter introduces a multi-functional fuse cover for use on printed circuit boards. The ESO 10.3x38 can be used simultaneously as an inserter, extractor and cover for fuses. Designed for use with Schurter’s CSO fuse clips, and the ASO 10.3x38 fuse, the combination provides touch-safe circuit protection up to 1500 VDC.
The demand for compact components for use on circuit boards is constantly growing, including in solar applications. Schurter meets these requirements with its patented ESO 10.3x38. With the ESO 10.3x38, fuses with the 10.3x38 mm format can be simply and securely attached to clips. Upon inserting the ESO 10.3x38 with captive fuse into the fuse clips, the installation provides a touch-safe cover according to IP20 specifications. If the fuse is triggered, then the ESO 10.3x38 can also be used as a fuse removal aid. Additional tools are not required. If the ESO 10.3x38 is used together with Schurter’s CSO fuse clips, and the Schurter’s ASO 10.3x38 fuse, then these form a fully compatible, safe and cost-effective combination.
In addition to numerous applications in the energy and industrial sectors, the ESO 10.3x38 is particularly suitable for protecting solar applications with rated currents of up to 32 A or rated voltages of up to 1500 VAC/VDC. Specific applications include solar inverters, string fuse boxes and battery charge controllers based on printed circuit boards. Standard terminal markings can also be optionally attached for simple identification of the fuse. When combined with the CSO fuse clip from Schurter, the ESO 10.3x38 has cURus certification.

The PSE EX 16 family has been extended to include the PSE EX 19 and PSE EX 22 mounting diameter. Furthermore, the certification of the PSE EX was enhanced and expanded. The PSE EX family is approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres containing air and gases. Further application areas also include industrial sectors such as mills, where solids are found in smallest form as dust, which may be prone to self-ignition.
Flammable substances such as gases, vapors or mist which are released into the environment, e.g. while in production, during transportation or storage, may ignite and pose serious consequences for persons and property. The same is true for dust which may develop in conjunction with air to an explosive atmosphere. To ensure security in these areas, the Device Directives 94/9/EC was developed for products and protection systems. The purpose of the guidelines is the protection of personnel and devices which are working in such hazardous areas. This is done by eliminating all possible sources of fire and ignitions in the products and systems used in these areas.
The PSE EX family is certified according to ATEX and IECEx regulations. The area of application is consistent with that of the device group II (other areas than mining). It comprises systems with a potentially explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air and gases, vapors or mists or in industrial areas where dust-air blends infuse the atmosphere and the danger of a dust explosion can arise.
The approval marking is Ex II 2 GD (according ATEX regulations), Ex ib IIC T6 ... T5 Gb and Ex ib IIIC T85 ° C ... T100 ° C Db (according IEC regulations) for gases and dust. The temperature class was extended from T4 to T5 and T6. Therefore the permissible power dissipation of the PSE EX was limited accordingly so that the piezo switch is intrinsically safe according to EN60079-11. In addition, the flammability group was increased from IIB to IC, respectively IIIC (gas, dust). This extension will allow the use of the PSE EX in atmosphere with further type of gases, combustible dust, ignitable fibers and flyings.
Typical applications include oil and gas exploration rigs, petrochemical facilities, environments of transportation and storage of combustible materials, paint mixing devices, painting devices, grain mills, wood processing industry, chemical plants etc.
The PSE EX standard models are available with mounting diameters of 16, 19 and 22 mm with pin connectors and housing colors in red, green or natural aluminum. On request other colors, housing diameters and connection versions are obtainable. The switches for hazardous use have a label with the particulars of the certification and an identification number. Installation instructions are included in the packaging according to the ATEX directives.
Technical data / Approvals:
- PSE EX 24V, 40 mA, PT6 = 0.7 W, PT5 = 0.96 W
- ATEX II 2 G D
- IEC Ex ib IIC T6…T5 Gb
- IEC Ex ib IIIC T85°C…T100°C Db

Schurter's T9 fuseholder style circuit breaker series is now expanded to include model T9-818 for PCB mounting. The new model complements the existing T9 series assortment for panel mounting, providing a complete range of mounting styles equivalent to closed fuseholders
The T9 series circuit breaker with the Model T9-818 for PCB mounting fills a gap in the market. The T9 series feature dimensions comparable to those of traditional fuseholders, and is likewise similarly designed for direct placement on circuit boards. SCHURTER’s existing T9 series features quick-connect
terminal types for front and rear snap in panel mounting, as well as thread neck mounting.
As with all PCB mounted components, assembly costs are considerably lower because fewer materials are used and wires are eliminated to fully automate assembly. In addition, the T9-818 is more compact than quick-connect terminal types and thus requires less space. Furthermore, its slim design means the
reset button protrudes only minimally from the front panel. Two mounting pins provide additional mechanical support on the circuit board and protect the solder connections from additional pressure when the reset button is activated.
The shape of the T9 circuit breaker is very similar to that of a fuseholder and thus offers an excellent alternative to 5x20 fuses and their respective fuseholders, where current surges can lead to premature tripping and aging over time. In contrast, circuit breakers prevent unnecessary down time by eliminating the need for changing fuses, as well as the associated risk of inadvertently inserting a fuse with the incorrect current rating, which may lead to equipment damage.
A further advantage of circuit breakers is the reset button, which springs out to indicate when the device trips. Reset is achieved by a simple push
of the button. Typical application areas for circuit breakers include use in power supplies, UPS systems, PDUs, electric tools, industrial applications, medical diagnostic equipment, analysis systems, lighting fixtures, HVAC products as well as equipment for sports and leisure activities. The T9 product line conforms to these standards: UL 1077, CSA C22.2 235 and IEC 60934.

When it comes to household appliances used in unattended operation, the provisions of standard IEC 60335-1 have in the past few years placed higher requirements regarding glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT). These more stringent requirements thus also apply to installed components such as power sockets, fuse holders and connectors. For this reason, all components carrying current must meet the requirements of glow-wire tests as specified in IEC 60695-2-12 and -13.
As a leading producer of fuse holders and power sockets, Schurter manufacturers a large number of products made of plastic materials with high glow-wire ratings. These are above all shock-safe fuse holders in the successful FPG series, which are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes as well as fuse blocks for assembly on circuit boards. Power connectors rated for 10 A and 16 A, including with a wide range of assembly types and various terminals, also meet these stricter requirements.
Schurter thus fulfills and exceeds the strict guidelines concerning fire prevention for electrical devices that are operated in households unattended. Which appliances are considered to fall under the «unattended» category and thus need components of this glow-wire category is defined in standard IEC 60335-2. Examples of such appliance types are dishwashers, coffee machines, washing machines and kitchen stoves.
