When it comes to household appliances used in unattended operation, the provisions of standard IEC 60335-1 have in the past few years placed higher requirements regarding glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT). These more stringent requirements thus also apply to installed components such as power sockets, fuse holders and connectors. For this reason, all components carrying current must meet the requirements of glow-wire tests as specified in IEC 60695-2-12 and -13.
As a leading producer of fuse holders and power sockets, Schurter manufacturers a large number of products made of plastic materials with high glow-wire ratings. These are above all shock-safe fuse holders in the successful FPG series, which are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes as well as fuse blocks for assembly on circuit boards. Power connectors rated for 10 A and 16 A, including with a wide range of assembly types and various terminals, also meet these stricter requirements.
Schurter thus fulfills and exceeds the strict guidelines concerning fire prevention for electrical devices that are operated in households unattended. Which appliances are considered to fall under the «unattended» category and thus need components of this glow-wire category is defined in standard IEC 60335-2. Examples of such appliance types are dishwashers, coffee machines, washing machines and kitchen stoves.

FMCC SOL: 3-phase high-current filter
* Compact for highest performance
* 150 - 2500 A
* 520 or 760 VAC
Schurter is expanding its successful FMER SOL DC filter with a series for applications using 3-phase AC. The new FMCC SOL high-performance filter series is designed for rated currents from 150 to 2500 A. The devices are ideal for increasingly powerful inverters that require filters on both the AC and DC sides. Large inverters find use in photovoltaics, wind energy systems as well as in industrial applications and quick-charge stations for electric vehicles.
The very high-performance FMCC SOL 3-phase high-current filters are designed to handle currents from 150 to 2500 A at an ambient temperature of 50 °C. With a voltage rating of 520 V or 760 V, they can be used in all high-performance systems such as inverters for photovoltaic and wind power systems. Despite this high performance, they feature a compact, lightweight design.
The amount of renewable energy is constantly growing. As a result, ever more powerful and physically larger systems are being built such as for photovoltaics and harvesting wind energy. All these systems need high-performance inverters that are designed for optimal energy efficiency. Modern inverters with
MPP (maximum power point) trackers generate interference in both directions: on the AC grid side and the DC panel side. On the DC side, a filter in the FMER SOL series can be used for currents from 25 to 2300 A. These are enhanced very nicely on the AC side with the new FMCC SOL high-current series for
3-phase AC from 150 to 2500 A. Filtering on both sides of the connection lines helps to meet common EMC standards.
The FMCC SOL filter family has UL approvals for ambient temperatures of +50 °C as well as +40 °C with higher rated current. They are approved for voltage ratings of 520 VAC and 760 VAC. The high voltage rating of 760 VAC allows their use in IT power grids.
The FMC SOL up to 250 A is equipped standard with M10 screw connections and starting at 320 A with copper bars. Other connection types (stranded wire or copper bars for current levels less than 320 A) are available on request. In addition, customer modifications to the switching or the housing are also possible on request.
For optimal matching to the inverter, SCHURTER offers its own EMC measurement service. In this way,
the most efficient filter solution for a system can be easily determined.
Technical features:
- Rated voltage: 520 or 760 VAC
- Rated current: 150 A to 2500 A
- Connection versions 150 - 250 A: M10 screw connections
- Connection versions 320 - 2500 A: copper bars
- cURus approval: E72928

With the new UMT-H, SCHURTER is expanding its already extensive offering of SMD fuses. The letter "H" in the product name stands for the high breaking capacity of 1500 A. This
high level makes the time-lag fuse ideal for applications with large short-circuit currents. Initially having six rated currents from 160 mA to 2 A, and having rated voltages up to 277 VAC and 250 VDC, this is truly an all-purpose component. These features and more make the square-shaped UMT-H a compact alternative to cylindrical fuses.
If all electrical specifications are equal, the UMT-H offers several advantages compared to cylindrical fuses, especially during assembly. For example, the square design prevents devices from rolling away during placement or during reflow soldering. Due to the position of the device markings, key information about the fuse can be seen immediately. In addition, the UMT-H from SCHURTER, with dimensions of 5.3 x 16 mm, is somewhat more compact than traditional cylindrical fuses in the 5 x 20 mm format.
Besides a wide range of applications in power circuits and sensors, the UMT-H is particularly well suited for the primary protection of power supply units. A further application area is in industrial electronics. The high breaking capacity of 1500 A and the spacing between the end caps of >10 mm also make these devices useful in applications that involve explosion protection (IEC 60079-11). Further, with a rated voltage up to 277 VAC along with cURus approval, these fuses are ideally suited for lighting applications in the US market.
Features and benefits:
- High rated voltages up to 277 VAC / 250 VDC
- High breaking capacity (H) of 1500 A at rated voltage
- Initially six rated currents from 160 mA to 2 A (others will follow)
- Time-lag (T) characteristics according to UL 248-14
- Compact, square design
- No rolling away during PCB assembly and soldering
- Safe interruption at line voltage
- Halogen-free and RoHS-compliant
Applications:
- Primary protection on SMD PCBs
- Industrial electronics
- Sensors
- Power supplies
- Explosion protection (IEC 60079-11)
- Lighting

Schurter has developed a new 16 A appliance inlet for efficient mounting. Designed for print circuit board mounting, the appliance inlet can be easily sandwiched between split enclosures and tested before it is installed in the equipment. Stabilizing posts provide quick snap-in assembly to the PCB. A version with screw mount stabilizers is also available.
The new IEC appliance inlet GSP4 from SCHURTER offers a compact solution for IEC C20 inlets used in applications where power components are board mounted. Equipped with print circuit board terminals for L, N & E, and a 6.3 x 0.8 mm quick connect or solder tab for additional ground to chassis, the GSP4 can be securely snapped-in or screwed-on to a print circuit board before soldering. This is achieved by means of robust stabilizing posts, which also serve to absorb withdrawal and insertion force. Rear mount styles are also available with or without mounting ears. An optional back-side cover for the appliance inlet is available for protection against accidental contact. The inlet is compatible with V-Lock cordsets. The V-Lock retaining system provides a safe and secure power connection by preventing unintentional disconnection of the power cord from the inlet. The GSP4 can also be delivered in Protection Class II, that is as an IEC C24 type socket. SCHURTER’s GSP2 IEC C14, 10 A model, offers the same advantages and is proven itself on the market over many years.
The GSP4 is approved to IEC 60320 by ENEC and CCC for 16 A / 250 VAC, by UL for 20 A / 250 VAC and by CSA for 18 A / 250 VAC. These appliance inlets are suited for applications according to IEC/EN 60950 and fulfill the enhanced glow-wire test requirements for equipments according to IEC 60335-1. They provide excellent features in power supplies, IT equipment, medical electrical equipment, lighting systems as well as test and measurement systems.
