Finder Monitoring Module, Type 40.42, Aids Health and Safety Compliance

September 24, 2015

Finder.jpg

70.42

With increasing health and safety demands and the need to protect valuable equipment, Finder’s new top of the range 70.42 3-phase, multifunctional monitoring relays offer maximum flexibility in monitoring a range of electrical supply parameters in compact, easy to adjust units at a competitive price.

This relay is ideal for monitoring supplies to machinery, equipment, and installations where failure or variation outside acceptable limits may result in damage to equipment, danger to personnel, or disruption to critical processes or procedures.

The Finder monitoring relay contributes to meeting the specific requirements of machine safety legislation (EN/60204-1), which requires that portable or semi- portable motor-driven equipment be prevented from starting up in the wrong direction should the local phases be reversed.

Able to monitor supply voltage within adjustable limits in six selectable modes (Under-voltage, Over-voltage, Window — all with or without Memory option), the unit also responds to out-of-limit Phase Asymmetry, incorrect Phase Sequence, and both Phase and Neutral loss.

Finder's Astro Time Switch Saves Energy Wherever You Are

August 4, 2015

Finder.jpg

Astro

Where the need exists to control lighting, temperature or other functions according to daylight hours, Finder’s Astro 12.81 time switch is an innovative, easily programmable time switch, which employs a unique digital program to calculate sunrise and sunset times by simply entering the location’s postcode with a single joystick. Its newest version now offers added flexibility, with the capability to override the Astro ON time with time-switch settings, thus further avoiding energy wastage.

With ever increasing pressures to reduce energy consumption, the Astro will control lighting, heating/cooling and humidity equipment in commercial, residential and industrial applications wherever sunrise and sunset times are critical in determining operational times, or where stipulated by local or national regulatory requirements.

The Astro’s micro-controller stores postcode data from 16 European countries, including the UK, which together with date information allows for the precise calculation of seasonal sunrise and sunset times. The Astro is also programmable using geographical coordinates, settable between 30°S and 64°N; 16°W and 50°E. The Astro will also automatically compensate, should European Summer Time be enabled.

For further versatility, the output switching can be advanced or retarded about the calculated sunrise (or sunset) time in 10-minute increments — up to a maximum of 90 minutes. A manual override of the output status allows for maintenance or one-off events.

With a 16 A 250 V AC rated output contact and a 120 A 5 ms peak current rating, the Astro time switch is capable of directly switching 2000W halogen, 750W compensated fluorescent, 200W CFL or LED lamp loads and AC15 loads up to 750VA.

The integral back-up battery, which is easily replaceable from the front, features an automatic power save mode which helps extend battery life.

Honeywell New Quadrature Speed and Direction Sensors, SNG-Q Series

July 21, 2015

Logo.jpg

Honeywell’s SNG-Q Series Quadrature Speed and Direction Sensors with 4-wire quadrature sensing is the first release of the new SNG-Q Series Speed Sensor Platform.

SNGQ Series

The sensor design and manufacturing use a platform-based approach that enables cost-competitiveness and mechanical and electrical configurability.

The SNG-Q Series provide both speed and direction information.  Speed information is provided from digital square wave outputs; direction is provided using a quadrature output with signals 90° phase shifted from each other. With the quadrature output, target direction is determined by output lead/lag phase shifting.  This product is designed for applications where enhanced accuracy is required to detect small target features.  This enhanced accuracy is enabled by dual differential Hall-effect sensor IC technology. The SNG-Q Series is designed for a wide operating temperature range, robust electrical noise immunity and industry leading environmental sealing capability.  This product includes an O-ring seal for pressure applications, and a fixed mounting flange for simple installation using one fastener.

FEATURES
*  Wide operating temperature range: -40ºC to 150ºC [-40°F to 302°F]
*  Environmental sealing: Moisture ingress protection rated to IP69k
*  Robust electrical noise immunity: Electrical noise radiated immunity (EMC) rated to 100V/m
*  High frequency switching capability: 3Hz to 20kHz
*  Direction information: From phase-shifted dual output signals
*  O-ring seal: Enables environmental sealing to mounting surface
*  Supply voltage range: 4.5V to 26V

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

INDUSTRIAL
*  AC induction motors in material handling, agriculture, and construction machines: May be used to help control power delivered by the ac induction motor
*  Hydraulic pump motors in material handling, agriculture, and construction machines: May be used to help control power delivered by the hydraulic pump motor
*  Escalators and elevators: May be used to help control speed and position

TRANSPORTATION
*  Hybrid electric transmissions in heavy duty trucks, buses, agriculture and construction machines: May be used to help control power regulation of the hybrid system
*  Wheel speed detection in material handling, agriculture, and construction machines: May be used to detect the speed and direction of the wheels, which translates to the speed and direction of the machine
*  Hybrid engines in heavy duty trucks, buses, agriculture and construction machines: May be used to help control power regulation of the hybrid system
