Arcolectric and BioCote Offer Antimicrobial Switches to Help the Fight Against Infections

June 6, 2013

Arcolectric – an Elektron Technology connectivity brand – has partnered with BioCote Ltd to offer a range of switches and covers with built in BioCote antimicrobial technology, providing integral protection from a wide range of micro-organisms, including bacteria, mould and fungi.

Recent high profile reports into antibiotic resistance have highlighted the need for robust infection prevention strategies, helping to eliminate antibiotic resistant organisms before they can cause infection. Arcolectric can incorporate BioCote® active silver ion technology into any of its ranges of rocker, push button and double pole switches, as well as dust and splash resistant covers. This reduces the presence of bacteria by up to 99.9 %, with no decrease in efficacy for the expected life span of the component, offering equipment manufacturers a key differentiator for the laboratory, healthcare and food processing sectors.

John McVeigh, Product Manager for Arcolectric, commented: “Switches and controls are often the first contact point for a user when they interact with a product, making these ‘high traffic’ areas a key target in the fight against microbial contamination. Integration of BioCote’s innovative antimicrobial technology into our components represents an important step forward, providing our customers with a straightforward enhancement that will benefit end users without impacting on equipment design or manufacture.”

Schurter Type GSP4 - IEC Appliance Inlet 16A/20A for PCB

May 29, 2013

Schurter Logo1.jpg

Schurter has developed a new 16 A appliance inlet for efficient mounting. Designed for print circuit board mounting, the appliance inlet can be easily sandwiched between split enclosures and tested before it is installed in the equipment. Stabilizing posts provide quick snap-in assembly to the PCB.  A version with screw mount stabilizers is also available.

The new IEC appliance inlet GSP4 from SCHURTER offers a compact solution for IEC C20 inlets used in applications where power components are board mounted. Equipped with print circuit board terminals for L, N & E, and a 6.3 x 0.8 mm quick connect or solder tab for additional ground to chassis, the GSP4 can be securely snapped-in or screwed-on to a print circuit board before soldering. This is achieved by means of robust stabilizing posts, which also serve to absorb withdrawal and insertion force.  Rear mount styles are also available with or without mounting ears. An optional back-side cover for the appliance inlet is available for protection against accidental contact. The inlet is compatible with V-Lock cordsets. The V-Lock retaining system provides a safe and secure power connection by preventing unintentional disconnection of the power cord from the inlet. The GSP4 can also be delivered in Protection Class II, that is as an IEC C24 type socket. SCHURTER’s GSP2 IEC C14, 10 A model, offers the same advantages and is proven itself on the market over many years.

The GSP4 is approved to IEC 60320 by ENEC and CCC for 16 A / 250 VAC, by UL for 20 A / 250 VAC and by CSA for 18 A / 250 VAC. These appliance inlets are suited for applications according to IEC/EN 60950 and fulfill the enhanced glow-wire test requirements for equipments according to IEC 60335-1. They provide excellent features in power supplies, IT equipment, medical electrical equipment, lighting systems as well as test and measurement systems.

Elektron Technology Partners with BioCote Ltd to Offer a Range of Antimicrobial Products

May 9, 2013

Elektron Technology is proud to partner with BioCote Ltd, to offer a range of antimicrobial products; BioCote® inhibits the growth of microbes on the surfaces of the following Arcolectric products:

* Push Button Switches
* Rocker Switches
* Switch Covers

Why Do We Need Antimicrobial Protection?
Microbes and can be found in any environment, as a natural part of everyday life. Even in the cleanest of surroundings, microbes begin to multiply on surfaces, sometimes to harmful levels, with one microbe having the ability to multiply to more than four million microbes within only eight hours.

BioCote technology gives the product constant, built in antimicrobial protection providing a finish that helps prevent microbes growing on the surface. BioCote protected of potentially harmful bacteria, making the need for hygiene vital, to help prevent cross- contamination.

BioCote Technology
BioCote Ltd is the market leader in providing built-in antimicrobial surface protection. Utilising the power of silver, a natural the time of manufacture. The silver technology then gives the surface of the product constant, built-in antimicrobial protection, providing a finish that helps prevent microbes growing on the surface.  With BioCote protection, the Arcolectric range of products surfaces provides protection 24 hours a day.

A Complement to Cleaning
BioCote complements hygiene practices, working in-between cleaning, 24 hours a day to reduce levels of microbes on surfaces.  BioCote antimicrobial technology has a variety of beneficial properties, making it an ideal alternative to synthetic, organic chemicals:

* Non-toxic
* Naturally occurring, environmentally-friendly and sustainable
* Will not break down, wear off, wash off or leach out of products over time
* BioCote retains its antimicrobial efficacy for the expected lifetime of the product
* Does not function in the same way as antibiotics, therefore, there is no known evidence to suggest that bacteria are resistant to it

Natural & Safe
BioCote utilizes silver ion technology. Silver is a natural antimicrobial, with a high efficacy against microbes, mould and fungi. Silver has been used for centuries for its abilities to aid preservation and help prevent infection. Silver is non-toxic, naturally occurring and environmentally-friendly.

Finder Adds 3 New Application-Specific Movement Detectors to its 18 Series Range

April 24, 2013

Finder.jpg
Based on new innovative electronics and optics Finder has added 3 new application-specific movement detectors to its 18 Series range.

Specifically for sensing within larger rectangular areas such as hotel lobbies and long corridors, the 18.41 surveys an area up to 15 metres either side of the device, giving an extensive total detecting zone of 30 metres long by 4 metres wide, from just a single unit.

Central to the 18.51 is an advanced lens and electronics system that achieves two detecting zones with different sensitivities. The central 4 x 4 metre zone responds to very small movements, able for example to pick-up on the presence of a person quietly working at his workplace. But additionally, within an extended 8 x 8 metre zone, it will also respond to normal movements. This product is particularly targeted at offices, schools, and the workplace in general.

“Twin-Mirror” technology gives the 18.61 its exceptionally wide viewing angle of 180°. Specifically designed for fitting into new or existing wall boxes, the 18.61 can be installed in corridors along with the 18.41 but is equally suited to small spaces such as bathrooms or passage areas. Essentially it can be installed as a direct replacement for a wall mounted light switch or push-button.

All three models share the common characteristics of a wide 110 ... 230 V AC power supply range, a 10A rated NO output contact, adjustable ambient light intervention threshold and a Light-Off delay adjustable from 12 to 35 minutes.

Depending on the type, these new products can be installed on the ceiling, in suspended ceilings or in recessed or flush mounting boxes.
