Timers Increase Flexibility While Reducing Part Number Count

December 21, 2011

Finder.jpg

Finder has announced the introduction of a range of eight modular, 22.5mm wide rail-mounted timers designed to provide a complete range of timing functions, while keeping part number holdings to the absolute minimum.  The multi-voltage 83 Series of multi-function and mono-function timers handles 14 different timing functions, with time scales between 0.05 seconds to 10 days and offers either single or double pole variants.

To maximise flexibility the timers support a very wide working voltage range, from 24V through to 240V AC or DC, making them suitable for mains or low voltage AC operation as well as DC battery supplies.  With changeover contacts rated for 16A, the 83 Series is capable of switching AC1 loads of up to 4KVA or single phase motors up to 0.5kW.  For easy maintenance, both flat blade and cross head screw drivers can be used to adjust the range and function selectors, the timing trimmer and to disengage the rail mounting clip.

The single pole 83.01 and double pole 83.02 multi-function timer variants both offer up to 8 different timing functions, including a special watchdog function allowing users to monitor repeating processes by resetting the time period each time a “watchdog” pulse is received, with the continuous presence or absence of a pulse beyond the set time triggering the release of the output contacts.

The 83.02 timer also provides the facility of external potentiometer time setting, enabling the timer to be adjusted from the front of control panel or enclosure, whilst assuring the security of timer function and time scale settings.  In addition, to further maximise flexibility and minimise part number stocking, it also offers users the option to select between either 2 timed or 1 timed and 1 instantaneous contact.

The third multi-function timer in the series, the 83.91 provides 4 asymmetrical flasher timing functions: starting pulse on; starting pulse off; as well as starting pulse on and starting pulse off both with a control signal input allowing timing to be initiated from a remote sensor operating at a voltage other than the supply voltage.

Completing the 83 Series timer range are 3 single pole mono-function timers:  the 83.11 for on-delay; the 83.21 for interval; 83.41 for off-delay with control signal; and a pair of 2 pole mono-function timers: the 83.62 for power-off delay (true off-delay) and the 83.82 for star-delta timing function.

Honeywell Extends Its TruStability® Pressure Sensor Product Line with a Single Side Liquid Media Option

November 2, 2011

Logo.jpg

Allows One Sensor Port to Be Used with Condensing Humidity or Directly with Non-corrosive Liquid Media

Honeywell introduced a single side liquid media option to its extensive line of TruStability® Pressure Sensors originally introduced in July 2009. The new single side liquid media option allows customers to use one port of the sensor with condensing humidity or non-corrosive liquid media, such as de-ionized water, eliminating the complexity and expense of having to protect the sensor from this type of media. Honeywell has developed this option because of the many applications where condensing humidity conditions exist or where liquid media is the desired media to be measured. Until now, Honeywell’s TruStability® Pressure Sensors have been intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic working fluids such as air and dry gases.

The TruStability® Pressure Sensor product line is comprised of the HSC (High Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series and the SSC (Standard Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series that offer customers three key benefits not found in other pressure sensors currently available:

* Industry-leading stability helps prevent drift over time or from temperature and humidity extremes; often eliminates the customer’s need to calibrate after mounting to the printed circuit board (PCB), and also the need for the end-user to calibrate the device;

* Temperature compensated and calibrated, providing an extremely tight accuracy specification;

* Modular and flexible design offers a wide variety of package styles and options, all with the same industry-leading performance specifications.

.

The HSC Series is designed to provide an industry-leading ±1% total error band specification, compensated across a 0 °C to 50 °C [32 °F to 122 °F] temperature range. The SSC Series is designed to provide a ±2% total error band specification, compensated across a wider -20 °C to 85 °C [-4 °F to 185 °F] temperature range.

The HSC and SSC Series’ footprint is very small in comparison to most silicon pressure sensors, including the current Honeywell portfolio. Despite their small size, they are temperature compensated, calibrated, and provide an amplified signal, typically allowing the customer to remove the components associated with signal conditioning from the PCB to increase space and reduce costs often associated with those components (e.g., acquisition, inventory, assembly). This integrated capability often eliminates problems that could occur from having multiple signal conditioning components across the PCB.

Both series offer the option of analog or digital outputs. Digital ASIC output in either I2C or SPI protocols from digital sensors accelerates performance through reduced conversion requirements and the convenience of direct interface to microprocessors or microcontrollers. Custom calibration ranges, output options, power options (3.3 Vdc or 5.0 Vdc), pressure types (absolute, differential, gage, compound), pressure ranges (1 psi to 150 psi), a wide array of mounting options (lead through SIP, DIP, and surface mount technology), and multiple package options provide support for many unique applications. They are designed to provide digital correction of sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature coefficients, and non-linearity.

Potential medical applications include airflow monitors, gas flow instrumentation, hospital diagnostics (gas chromatography, blood analysis machines), kidney dialysis machines, oxygen concentrators, pneumatic controls, respiratory devices/machines (ventilators, anesthesia machines, patient monitoring), and sleep apnea equipment. Potential industrial applications include barometry, flow calibrators, gas chromatography, gas flow instrumentation, HVAC, life sciences and pneumatic controls.

October 10, 2011

Schaffner 225_31.jpg

The Schaffner Group has extended its product portfolio of IEC inlet filters to include the power cord range IL13 with integrated locking system.

Using an easy-to-operate locking button, the IEC Lock snaps into the IEC mains socket and can be easily unlocked by employing slight pressure to the operating button. This eliminates the effort to mount retaining clips to avoid accidental disconnection of the power cord.

The reliability of electronic devices that are exposd to vibration like in mobile applications can thus be increased. The IL13 is also suitable for use with all equipment requiring secure mains connections, i.e. in the fields of IT, medical, laboratory or communications technology.

The power cord with the patented IEC Lock System does not require any modifications to existing IEC sockets. It can be used with any Schaffner IEC inlet filter or IEC C14 inlet according to IEC 60320 up to 10A.

The cord is supplied in black with a length of 2m as standard. The red marking of the locking button sets the IL13 unmistakably apart from conventional power cords.

On the line side the cord can be supplied with different plugs for international use. Of course the IL13 complies with RoHS and REACH requirements and is available everywhere via the worldwide Schaffner distribution and sales network.

Electricity produced from Solar PV has a very high efficiency of around 95%, compared to electricity generated from traditional fossil fuels which have overall efficiency of less than 40%.

The electricity produced by a Solar PV system can drive any appliance that is powered by electricity. An inverter converts the DC current into usable AC current that can be used as power. Any surplus electricity produced can be sold back to the National Grid.

Electricity requirements vary depending on the size of your house and how energy-efficient the building and appliances are. With a Solar PV system you will be able to reduce electricity bills because the system will supply some or all of your power rather than mains electricity.
