E-T-A not only offers electronic overcurrent protection and thermal or thermal-magnetic circuit breakers, but another type of protection: magnetic and hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers. What characterises these devices and in which applications are they used?
Circuit breakers and protectors with magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic trip principle are extremely fast and ensure genuine physical isolation. In the event of a short circuit, the magnetic trip mechanism disconnects a defective circuit almost without delay. The circuit is disconnected even at low overloads. The
hydraulic-magnetic trip principle provides an intentional delay in the overload range. You can choose from a wide range of device versions.
The 808 version is a single-pole, polarised circuit breaker with magnetic fast trip mechanism. An uncomplicated switching system ensures eliable disconnection even for the smallest overcurrents. The device can also be used for impulse tripping. The compact design and the fast reaction time are specifically suitable for PCB mounting to protect sensitive electronic components installed there. The device is available with fixed current ratings from 0.01 A to 5 A, which makes this circuit protector highly suitable for fragile loads. Another quality feature is its low temperature sensitivity. Thanks to its extremely compact design of only 30 x 20 x 10 mm (H x W x D) when installed, the 808 version can be mounted on virtually any PCB.
E-T-A’s 8335 circuit breakers for equipment protection are available as single- or multi-pole version with magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic trip principle. They provide toggle actuation, front panel mounting, different characteristic curves and optional auxiliary contacts. The precise switching mechanism ensures reliable disconnection through an independent tripfree mechanism even for the smallest overcurrents.
Like all magnetic devices, they feature low temperature sensitivity at rated load. They are available with a rated current range from 1 A to 50 A and have a very compact design. They are suitable for AC and DC voltages.
The 8335 devices offer economic overcurrent protection for telecommunication applications in the Economy Power-D-Box®. This a a compact power distribution system with only two height units (HU). The redundantly designed rack can be customised with plug-in type magnetic or hydraulic-magnetic 8335 or 8340 circuit breakers.
This product group is very attractive - not only because of the already mentioned benefits of the hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers - but also because of its many mounting options. Type 8340 and 8340-F devices are available with flange or snap-on mounting. This design version is suitable for the use in the telecommunications / datacom industry. In industrial applications, however, DIN rails are more commonly used. This area is covered by the 8340-T version. The users here appreciate the 8340-T specifically because of its integral auxiliary contacts and the wide temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. The 8340-G version is mounted via threadneck. They are normally used e.g. in rail vehicle applications.
When you need a device with many different approvals, the 8345 is the device of choice. With a slim design of only 19 mm, the device can carry rated currents of up to 125 A, which is more than any other device of this product class. It is available with instantaneous, extremely fast or very slow trip curve. It can be extended with additional module options for signalling or remote trip. Thanks to its international approvals, this device can be used in telecommunication applications worldwide and protects the digitisation hardware against damage caused by overcurrents.

Schurter has a long tradition with circuit breakers. In addition to their thermal release (bimetal), the classic TA35 and TA36 are now optionally equipped with an additional magnetic module, which promises reliable protection within milliseconds in the event of very high overcurrent (short circuit).
Thermal Circuit Breakers
Circuit breakers are usually designed according to the thermal principle with a bimetal. If a defined temperature is exceeded due to overcurrent, the electric circuit is interrupted. Once the bimetal cooled down, the appliance is ready for use again. However, if a short circuit occurs, the bimetal cannot react fast enough. For this reason, thermal circuit breakers are usually combined with a fuse.
Additional Magnetic Module
Schurter is now upgrading its 2-pole classic TA35 and TA36 models with an additional, optional magnetic module. From now on, no additional fuse is required when using a thermal-magnetic type. Depending on the application, the magnetic modules are available either with a slow or a fast acting characteristic.
Both models are designed for snap-in mounting and with finely graduated rated currents. A variety of colours and lighting options make the designer's choice easier. The Schurter TA35 has a more classic style, while its TA36 counterpart comes in a more modern design. A circuit breaker with a short circuit protection is mainly meant for applications, where a full protection on the primary side is required.

Schurter launches a new 3-phase filter series for DIN rail mounting. Thanks to the slim housing (44 mm), it takes up very little space on the mounting rail in the control cabinet. The single-stage filter is available with standard or high attenuation. A metal base plate ensures an excellent ground connection to the rail.
Space is almost always at a premium in control cabinets for industrial applications in the 3-phase range (e.g. motor drives, control systems). Schurter addresses this problem with a complete new filter design that is just 44 mm in width. The new, single-stage filter series is constructed with a printed circuit board in a plastic housing. It has screw terminals for the three phases and a terminal on the metal base plate for the earth connection.
Standard and High Performance Versions
In the standard version with a ferrite core, the new filters already offer very impressive attenuation behavior. The high performance versions withn nanocrystalline cores achieve up to 8 dB more attenuation.
Low Leakage Currents
The new filter family has particularly low leakage currents of just 1.3 mA. This applies to all versions!
Applications
All versions can be used from -40 °C to 100 °C. The filters are designed for currents from 3 A to 32 A at a maximum of 520 VAC in accordance with IEC and UL standards. They feature ENEC and cURus approval and are suitable for applications in accordance with IEC 62368-1. FPAC rail filters are recommended for devices with high EMC loads (switching power supplies, converters, etc.).
Typical areas of application are therefore industrial or machine control systems, but the highperformance, slimline filters are also ideal for laboratory, telecom and IT devices.

400 VDC Connector According to IEC TS
After launching the first 400 VDC connectors (GP21 and GS21) in accordance with IEC TS 62735, Schurter is now adding models GC21 and GH21/GI21 on the device side - of course IECcompliant. From the network to the device: The Schurter 400 VDC family is the first DC connector solution available worldwide to be complete according to IEC TS.
With the GP21 and GS21 connectors, Schurter launched the world's first DC connector systems standardized according to IEC TS 62735-1 for efficient power distribution in data centers, for power distribution strips and UPS applications back in 2019.
The GH21 and GI21 appliance Inlets are brand new. The GI21 model is designed for pure DC operation, while the GH21 is a hybrid version and can therefore accept both AC and DC current. SCHURTER also offers the rewireable GC21 Connector to match the appliance Inlets. A cord retention system developed from scratch ensures safe operation in everyday use. All three new products are made from a bio-based plastic (Green Plastic).
The Advantages of DC
With a pure DC supply, cost-intensive and failure-prone transformations and conversions, including their components, are completely eliminated. Operational reliability increases with improved efficiency. And climate-friendly technologies that generate direct current are becoming established in energy generation.
IEC TS 62735-1 / IEC TS 63236
Due to its properties, the standards for direct current (2.6 kW) require a more complex connector connection design as DC arcs must be avoided when disconnecting the supply. Another highlight is the extended temperature range of the connector pins from -5 °C to +105 °C.
Matching Cables
Under the designation SPC1, Schurter now also offers suitable, customized DC power cables for all connection options on request.
