Crydom (Solid State Relays) Solutions for Heating Industry

July 17, 2007

 clogo.jpg

Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are widely used in the heating industry. By specifying the Random Turn-on versions, Crydom SSR’s can be used as proportional controllers for varying power to resistance type heaters. Applied in a more basic way, when used in conjunction with “on-off” style temperature controllers, Crydom SSRs can be used as a power cycling switch without concern for contact arcing, burning, or the resultant reduction of life expectancy.

Crydom SSR Ranges.jpg

With the wide range of SSR types available, Crydom relays can be selected and used to control Quartz lamp, ceramic, infrared, CalRod, cartridge, immersion, strip, and band type heaters among many others. In addition, SSR’s can control fuel valves, blower motors, damper motors, and serve as the interface between thermostats and their primary equipment.

The Crydom MCTC Series of micro-controlled SSR/temperature controllers can be used as a stand alone temperature controller where a compact, low cost solution is required. The MCTC eliminates the need for a separate controller and SSR assemblies, by combining both into one standard size SSR package.

New ABB Terminal Technology Eliminates Wiring Mistakes on MCBs

July 13, 2007

ABB2.jpg

ABB has launched a range of miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) aimed at OEMs, panelbuilders and the industrial sector. The System pro M compact® incorporates a number of new features designed to eliminate wiring connection errors.

A key feature is the positioning of the cabling terminal in front of the busbar connection terminal, making both terminals easier to access and see. By placing both terminal ports at the bottom of the MCB, connections can be made secure by using only one screw to fasten both the busbar connection and the electrical cabling into their respective terminals.

ABB has also introduced auxiliary contacts for the pro M compact® range, which can be added to the bottom of an MCB instead of the side. Saving up to 50% space in enclosures, this feature increases the number of auxiliary contacts which can be installed, expanding the number of remote monitoring options. Plug-in connectivity also makes the contacts simple to connect.

Min CB.jpg

The pro M compact® MCBs also offer a reduced height compared to ABB’s previous range, saving around 2cm of space per MCB. This provides additional installation space for when space is at a premium.

ABB’s patented release system enables easy removal without the need for a screwdriver. Release connectors on the back of the devices allow them to be simply disconnected from the busbar after turning power off and disconnecting the wiring.

The pro M compact® range is suitable for use worldwide as the materials used to manufacture them exceed standards for both European regulations for RoHs and UL, the US directive for electrical components. The pro M compact® MCBs can be ordered ready for installation for both Europe and the US. A Europe-only version is also available.

CML Offer Miniature Incandescent Lamps with Matching Sockets from One Source

May 23, 2007
CML LogoB.JPG

April 2007 – A comprehensive range of miniature incandescent lamps including advanced Xenon filled types and matching drop-in replacement sockets is available from CML Innovative Technologies (CML-IT). Delivering a cost-effective solution with high luminous output, traditional incandescent lamps still have a valid role in many applications such as automotive, gaming, aviation and transport, where cost restrictions don’t warrant the use of still higher-priced, modern LED lamps.

miniature incandescent lamps.jpg

Produced in Bury (United Kingdom) and Bamberg (Germany), CML-IT’s range of Xenon filled miniature incandescent lamps, for example, benefits from a long service life of 10000 hours, a cool wall temperature (about 30 degrees Celsius less than comparable Argon lamps), a very high colour temperature and high output in low watt versions. Compared with conventional incandescent lamps, Xenon filled types also offer power savings.

Miniature incandescent lamps generate significant sales of approximately $40M per year for CML-IT and recently prompted a major investment at the company’s production facility in Bury. A new socket machine was commissioned and will increase the production of sockets from 440000 units per week up to 660000 units per week. This will make it even easier for customers to directly source miniature incandescent lamps together with matching sockets from CML-IT.

FINDER New Generation of Staircase Timers Provide Extended Functionality for Energy Saving and Safety

May 22, 2007

 Finder.jpg

Finder announces a new generation of its 14 Series electronic staircase timers, which have been designed for energy saving control of lighting in areas of temporary occupation. The latest models feature microprocessor control, and are targeted at lighting applications in stairwells, corridors, washrooms, storerooms and similar areas that only require illumination for short periods of time.

Designers, contractors and installers of lighting in commercial and residential property are continually looking for ways to reduce energy consumption by eliminating wasteful lighting in unoccupied areas, while addressing the growing need to illuminate more public areas for security and safety reasons in an economical way. Staircase timers such as the 14 series offer a cost-effective solution that is simple to implement even in small installations.

FIN0044_14Series.jpg

The 14.01 timer is a multi-function unit, while the 14.71 is a single function version. Both models have an on period that is adjustable between 30s and 20 minutes, so that a single timer is suitable for wide range of installations. This flexibility of operation means that specification is simplified and inventory levels can be kept to a minimum. A further single function model, 14.81, offers wiring compatibility with earlier mechanical models.

All the new timers feature zero-crossing load switching, which enables the switching of higher lamp loads and also offers the benefits of longer lamp and unit life and reduced RF interference. A switch-off early warning function on the 14.01 gives a user who is still in the area time to re-activate the timer before the light is turned off.

Multi-function features on the 14.01, accessed via a simple rotary function selector, include timed control with or without manual override, early warning, standard on/off, permanent on and maintenance function with extended 60 minute on time.

Each timer can be used with up to 30 illuminated pushbutton actuators, offering local control over a wide area and thus giving the user maximum opportunity to re-activate the timer before being plunged into darkness: this enhances safety, and is especially beneficial in stairwells.

All the 14 Series timers are housed in a 35mm rail mounting enclosure that is 17.5mm wide, and have a timing adjustment suitable for standard consumer unit.
